Chuck Schumer’s ‘Father’s Day heaven’ took a rapid turn for the worse after he tried to showcase his skill at the grill.
The Senate majority leader posted a picture of himself in shorts and T-shirt casually flipping a burger as he tended a barbecue at his daughter’s home.
But the picture was removed faster than an igniting hot dog after followers on X saw that he had slapped a piece of cheese onto a raw burger.
And his political opponents were quick to fan the flames including Donald Trump Jr who accused him of ‘playing to the masses’.
‘If you need help learning how to do basic grilling stuff let me know,’ he added. ‘Nice try relating though.’
The veteran politician did admit his inexperience as he tweeted from his daughter Alison’s home.
‘Our family has lived in an apartment building for all our years,’ the New York senator wrote.
‘But my daughter and her wife just bought a house with a backyard and for the first time we’re having a barbecue with hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.
‘Father’s Day Heaven.’
That did not cut the mustard with grill fans as the 73-year-old Democrat found himself thoroughly ratioed on social media.
‘Remember this the next time you hear someone brag about their Harvard degree.’ wrote one.
‘King Charles is more likely to know how to make a cheeseburger than Charles Schumer, and I am sure the King has no clue,’ said another.
‘Yeah, but he can sure grill taxpayers,’ added a third.
Still more were unsettled by the unappealing look of the burgers themselves.
‘I don’t know about you, but when I grill burgers, the meat is fresh and red, not pale gray like rotten meat,’ wrote one.
‘There’s not one bit of seasoning on those premade frozen old-meat burgers,’ added another.
‘Oh and no smoke whatsoever,’ noted a third.
The Senate leader is far from the first politician to face a roasting for an unaccomplished display at the grill.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul was mocked for tweeting a picture of herself in a spotless white outfit as she gingerly held a spatula with an uncooked burger on the end of it at an August barbecue in 2022.
But Schumer, who is the country’s highest ranked Jewish elected official, also faced religious blowback for transgressing the prohibition on eating meat with cheese.
‘I love you Chuck, but the cheese in the burger was just not necessary,’ tweeted Rabbi Elchanan Poupko.
‘It’s pretty basic Jewish practice to avoid mixing meat and dairy.’
