Emma Harvie has revealed how her role on Colin From Accounts completely changed her life.

The actress portrays Megan, or ‘Meggles’, on the smash hit comedy series, but admitted she didn’t used to think she would be able to launch a career in TV.

Emma, who is of Sri Lankan heritage, said she never saw anyone who looked like herself on TV when she was growing up and didn’t think she would ‘fit’ into the industry.

‘I didn’t really think I could be an actor and make money from it – especially in ,’ she told the Daily Telegraph.

‘There was no one on TV that looked like me, I didn’t think that was a place I would fit into, but it kind of worked out.’

Emma told how representation still makes an impact on her as she praised the casting of Ambika Mod as lead Emma Morley in Netflix’s hit series One Day.

Emma said it was the first time she had seen a South Asian actress as a romantic lead where her ethnicity was irrelevant to the story as she detailed its huge impact on her.

‘It meant something to me to see someone that looks like me doing that,’ she candidly shared.

‘It’s so vital that you can actually physically see someone that looks like you doing that – otherwise, you just don’t know that it’s an option.’

Emma also hinted at what fans can expect for Meggles in the second season of Colin From Accounts, which debuted in  on May 30, with the UK and US release date yet to be confirmed.

She teased that the new series becomes a ‘real dating show’ for her character and said her heart starts to be pulled in different directions.

Harriet Dyer, 35, and her husband Patrick Brammall, 48, co-created the Binge comedy-drama, while they also take on the leading roles of Ashley and Gordon.

The first eight-part series saw their complex characters brought together following a fateful car accident and an injured dog, and it quickly rose to global acclaim.

The second season continues to follow the misadventures of Gordon and Ashley, as they navigate life and love in modern day Sydney.

Colin From Accounts has become a huge hit in over 100 countries since its first season premiered back in 2022.

Harriet and Patrick took home an AACTA award for Best Narrative Comedy Series and two Logies for Most Outstanding Actor and Most Outstanding Actress.

The series also cleaned up at the Venice TV Awards, the European Broadcasting Union’s Rose d’Or awards, and London’s C21 International Awards.
