A Las Vegas man stabbed his wife to doctor death before repeatedly stabbing himself, an arrest report has revealed.
It revolves around 33-year-old Shiva Gummi, who was sentenced to between 10 and 25 years in prison for the 2023 murder of Dr. Gwendoline Amsrala in April of that year.
The crime occurred at the pair’s home a year earlier, after Amsrala went out to celebrate her first year of residency at UNLV’s medical school with friend for a night of drinking.
Gummi took issue with the excursion, and savaged his wife – and himself – upon her return.
He proceeded dial 911 – telling an operator he stabbed himself several times and wanted to die, according to the report. He will now spend at least a decade behind bars, a year after he told dispatchers he’d stabbed himself ‘everywhere’ on his body.

‘I want to die but I’m not dying,’ Gummi told the operator around 8:15am on April 15, claiming he’d stabbed himself five hours earlier.
According to newly unveiled report, Gummi added that he was in a locked bedroom.
‘I want to die but I’m not dying,’ he added, before being asked about his wife.
‘[She’s] next to me,’ he said, cops in Clark County wrote.
When the operator asked if she could help control the bleeding, he simply said, ‘She’s dead’, refusing to answer any other questions.
Officers arriving at the home were let in by Gummi’s mother-in-law, investigators initially stated – a person who appears again in the newly released report.
After forcing entry into the locked room, they found Gummi and his wife laying on a mattress, both with open stab wounds, after which a large, bloody kitchen knife was spotted on the floor.
Cops would rush Gummi to the hospital and pronounce his spouse dead, before questioning the remaining woman at the residence.

She told them she was not aware of any domestic abuse between the two, but that Gummi had reportedly been angry about her daughter spending the night at the home of a friend who was intoxicated, celebrating finishing her first year as a doctor in training.
‘[Gummi] was upset with Gwendoline after she spent the night at a friend’s house who was intoxicated after a night of drinking,’ the report said.
Amsrala returned from the celebrations before 9pm, while Gummi – who also went out, arrived two hours later, irate over the unsanctioned get together.
At some point, he stabbed her multiple times before turning the knife on himself, less than a year after his wife graduated from UNLV’s Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine.
She went on to be mourned by friends and colleagues in the Vegas medical community, as a GoFundMe set up by the doctor’s family stated she ‘was destined to fulfill a rich and meaningful career dedicated to serving her future patients.’
‘We always remember your after school discipline, in [organizing] the things, doing homework and later meeting others or play,’ her aunt added in an online obituary.
‘We miss a young Doctor in the family who had an infectious smile and power to heal.’
Arrested during his hospitalization, Gummi reached a deal with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office this past month – hence his slight sentence.
He entered an Alford plea to one count of second-degree murder, owning up to the killing in the process.

He already has 405 days in credit for time served, meaning the rest of his sentence could last less than ten years, even without good behavior.
He has also been asked to pay a fee of $428, KTNV reported.
A post on the UNLV Internal Medicine Instagram page after their former’s student’s death remembered her fondly.
It read: ‘The world has lost an amazing physician who would have changed the lives of countless patients.
‘Our program misses her infectious smile, positive energy, and the love she had for her work family.’
Gummi’s sentence, meanwhile, is already underway, a year after doctor’s saved his life on the operating table. Amsrala received her MD from the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV in 2022.
