Most of is set to be dry for the remainder of the week as the threat of a cyclone hitting the country’s northeast significantly drops.

On Thursday morning, the Bureau of Meteorology advised that Tropical Cyclone Paul, currently sitting east of Queensland’s coast, is weakening.

The system is slowly tracking northeast towards the Coral Sea and is not expected to make landfall in Queensland. 

‘Paul is located more than 1000 km to the east northeast of Cairns and currently poses no direct threat to the n mainland or any of its external territories,’ Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domensino said.

‘At this stage, Tropical Cyclone Paul should weaken from Friday onwards and is expected to have wakened below tropical cyclone strength by Saturday.’

A second system, tropical low 12U, has a reduced chance of developing into a cyclone.

Meanwhile, remnants from Tropical Cyclone Olga are set to continue causing rain in Western ‘s south through the weekend.

‘s northeast, the Northern Territory’s Top End, New South Wales coast, eastern Victoria, and southwest Tasmania all have a moderate chance of seeing very light rainfall.

Despite the low rain forecast, several flood warnings remain in place in Queensland.

A major flood warning has been issued for the Balonne, Barcoo, and Warrego rivers.

The Georgina, Moonie River, Weir rivers and Eyre Creek are under a moderate flood warning while minor flooding is forecast for the Thomson River, Dawson River and Cooper Creek.

Dangerous surf conditions are expected on the Byron, Coffs, Macquarie, Sydney, Illawarra and Batemans coasts on Friday.

‘Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming,’ the Bureau said.

Sydney

Sydneysiders are set for a mostly sunny Friday with a slight chance of a shower in coastal areas alongside light winds.

Warm weather in the city is expected to stay through the weekend with a top of 24C on Friday followed by 24C again on Saturday and 25C on Sunday.

Partial cloud coverage is set to hang over Sydney’s skies on Saturday and Sunday with a chance of morning fog in the city’s west.

Melbourne

Melbourne is forecast to be grey on Friday with a chance of morning fog followed by showers in the southeastern suburbs. There’s a medium chance of showers throughout the remainder of the city.

The southern city will be much cooler than Sydney with a top of just 18C coupled with light winds on Friday.

Temperatures on Saturday could get as low as 12C followed by 11C on Sunday. 

Showers over the city are expected to clear by Saturday for a partially cloudy weekend.

Brisbane

A top of 27C in Brisbane on Friday is forecast alongside mostly sunny conditions.

The city has a slight chance of seeing a shower in the late morning and afternoon with light winds reaching up to 20km/h.  

Brisbane has a chance of seeing light showers on Saturday ahead of mostly sunny conditions on Sunday. 

Canberra

Partially cloudy conditions are forecast for Canberra through to next week.

Light winds are expected to turn northwesterly and reach up to 20km/h early Friday afternoon.

High temperatures in the city are expected to stay in the low 20Cs while a low of 5C is forecast on Saturday followed by 9C on Sunday.

Perth

Mostly sunny conditions are forecast in Perth on Friday alongside a top of 29C.

Any clouds over the city are expected to clear for a sunny Saturday and Sunday, both with a high of 28C. 

Adelaide 

Adelaide’s forecast is partially cloudy through to next week.

High temperatures are expected to remain in the low 20Cs over the weekend. 

Darwin

Darwin is finally nearing the end of its wet season with showers over the city on Friday expected to clear on Saturday and Sunday.

High temperatures are forecast to stay in the mid 30Cs alongside lows in the mid 20Cs.

Hobart

Partial cloudy skies over Hobart on Friday are expected to grow greyer on Saturday.

Tasmania’s capital will stay relatively cool with highs of 19C and 20C coupled with lows of 12C.
