A police officer in Kansas City has shot dead his wife and 12-year-old son dead before turning the gun on himself in a horrific murder-suicide.

Jerel D. McGeachy, 38, worked as a police officer with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs alongside his wife, Domonique, who worked as a nurse.

Just after 9:45am on Monday, April 1, the couple were found dead inside their home alongside their 12-year-old son Jerel D. McGeachy Jr.

The grisly discovery was made by officers during a wellness check – who found the three family members with ‘apparent bodily trauma.’

Kansas City Police officers said that they first came across the 12-year-old boy with a fatal gunshot wound, and that as they went further into the home they discovered his mother, 38, who also had suffered a deadly gunshot wound.

Police are investigating the deaths of the mother and son as homicides and are ‘not actively looking for anyone else involved.’

The 12-year-old boy uploaded a worrying social media post at 5:29am the same day he was found dead.

While the post has not been publicly shared, it is known to have made references to ‘discipline by the father,’ the mother’s decision to separate from the father and ‘differences’ between the parents, People reported.

Other recent social media posts by Jerel Jr. mourned the loss of his paternal grandmother.

The family previously lived in Cumberland County, but had recently moved to Kansas City.
