The FDA issued a warning against injectable silicone for body contouring in 2021 and said they can lead to long-term pain, infections and serious injuries including death.

‘The injectable silicone oil (breaks) off into smaller particles throughout the body, possibly causing permanent damage and life-threatening complications such as stroke, embolism and even death,’ Lisa Vasquez, a board-certified aesthetic nurse practitioner at Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery told USA Today.

Vasquez warned that the reversal process of silicone injection is difficult, even for the most skilled plastic surgeons.

‘Removal will require direct incision or VASER-assisted liposuction guided by ultrasound, [which] emoves injected silicone, siliconomas, and scar tissue,’ she said.

‘But there is nothing that can dissolve the liquid silicone. Granulomas that are formed need to be surgically excised.’

The FDA said injectable silicone stays in the body forever because the material will never breakdown.

‘Injectable silicone is permanent and stays in your body. It can move throughout the body and cause serious health consequences, including death,’ the FDA said.

In California, a mother and daughter duo were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for deadly butt-lift last month.

Libby Adame, 53, and her daughter Alicia Galaz were charged with causing the death of their client, Karissa Rajpaul, 26, in October 2019.

The mother and daughter ran an illegal Brazilian butt lift surgery ring using ‘toxic’ compounds in their silicone injections.

Prosecutors said they fled the scene after several botched surgeries, including after Rajpaul suffered a heart attack on their operating table in a hotel.
