She is one of the BBC’s hottest talents – on a spicy £340,000-a-year pay deal. And now Naga Munchetty has revealed her secret obsession with Tabasco sauce, which she says she puts on ‘everything’ she eats.

The 49-year-old presenter even owned up to pinching £2.50 bottles from restaurants and taking them to work.

‘I don’t know if it’s stealing, some restaurants have the little mini Tabascos – I do take them. I feel really good when I’ve got a couple of them in my bag,’ she confessed to host Paul Merton during a recording for a new episode of the radio show Room 101.

Ms Munchetty, a keen golfer, told the BBC audience: ‘If you’re forced to stop [golfing] halfway and you’re really cold, there’s usually soup. I would have a sip and go, ‘Yeah, I need the Tabasco.’

She said she put the sauce on ‘fried eggs, chips, everything’.

‘Tabasco’s great with breakfast. I wouldn’t put it on a dessert – and not in my porridge – but other than that, I don’t think there are many foods I wouldn’t put Tabasco sauce on.’

The BBC Breakfast presenter also admitted she’s been known to pack a couple of bottles when going abroad.

Ms Munchetty will appear in the new series of Radio 4’s Room 101, where guests have to choose three things they would banish from life and one they cannot live without.

Among the things Ms Munchetty would banish are guests in her house who fail to remove their shoes.

‘I’ve got slippers,’ she said. ‘I don’t care if you’ve got a hole in your sock. If you’re desperate I’ll offer you a sock. Feet are clean, it’s what you’ve trodden on outside.’

The new series of Room 101 starts on Radio 4 on Wednesday April 3. The first guest is comedian Chris McCausland.
