An international student driving a flash Mercedes-Benz SUV around a university campus has divided the internet with his advice on how to get rich.

Eve, a social media influencer and videographer, was stunned to see the Mercedes-Benz G63 driving around the car park at Sydney’s University of NSW and decided to approach the driver.

The latest Mercedes-Benz G63 is priced at almost $400,000 drive away, enough to buy a unit outright on Sydney’s western outskirts.

After complimenting the man behind the wheel on his ‘cool wagon’ – which had the number plate SIX, a lucky number in Chinese culture associated with good fortune – she asked him what model it was before enquiring what he did for a living.

‘International student at UNSW,’ the young man replied in broken English.

He was then asked what financial advice he had for others so they can become as rich as him, and implied his fortune – or at least his family’s – came from property.

‘Buy more houses; it’s a good idea,’ he replied as the interview quickly wrapped up.

Under Foreign Investment Review Board regulations, international students can buy one established dwelling, and it must be to live in. An established dwelling means a house or apartment already built and lived in.

They also require FIRB approval for the purchase.

If they want to buy an investment property, it must be a new property or vacant land to build a new property, not an established dwelling.

The student visa rules provide a loophole for Chinese residents hoping to buy an established dwelling in .

The video has since gone viral, with almost 155,000 views within 16 hours.

Hundreds of baffled viewers weighed into the debate as ‘s cost-of-living crisis worsens.

‘Financial advice from this kid? “Don’t have poor parents”,’ one said.

A third wrote: ‘Hard to buy a house when all your international students’ families are buying them, yet we can’t afford them ourselves and we keep the door wide open.

Another added: ‘When I was at uni I had no money for lunch… or the bus.’

Others didn’t understand what the fuss was about as they leapt to the student’s defence.

‘What’s the big deal?’ one commented.

Another wrote: ‘YET HE is driving an a G-WAGON and here you are in your dirty basement’s couch sipping cheap beer and being jealous. Wow, get a life, man.’

More than 20,000 international students attend UNSW.
