A man accused of attempting to more than 20 kilograms of methamphetamine into in his carry-on luggage has appeared in court. 

The Taiwanese national, 27, was questioned by n Border Force (ABF) officers at Sydney International Airport after he arrived on a flight from Thailand on Tuesday.

ABF officers searched his luggage and allegedly found 21.2 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in wine bottles, herbal tea and bath salts. 

The man intended to visit for five days, according to the n Federal Police.

AFP Sydney Airport Police Commander Morgen Blunden said law enforcement are committed to stamping out crime at the airport.

‘Despite all the risks involved, we are still arresting people attempting to bring illicit drugs into our country through our airports,’ he said.

‘No matter how elaborate or creative the attempts are, the AFP and our partners are working tirelessly to prevent airports being used as part of the criminal supply chain.’

ABF Travel East Commander Rosemaree Cracknell also warned passengers about testing their luck, saying Border Force officers are always watching.

‘Syndicates continue to come up with different ways to attempt to smuggle illicit drugs into , with this example under the guise of legitimate food and alcohol products,’ she said.

‘Our ABF officers are exceptionally skilled to identify and question travellers who may be attempting to import illicit substances into our country.

‘Methamphetamine continues to destroy n families, the ABF will continue to work with our state and federal partners to stop this dangerous illicit drug from crossing the border.’

The 27-year-old appeared in Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday and was refused bail

The man appeared in Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday and was refused bail. 

He is expected to re-appear in the same court in May.
