Pictures taken by travellers showing ‘disgusting’ meals and tatty furniture in its lounges has led one frequent flyer to label Qantas ’embarrassing’ – with the airline even being forced to apologise for a ‘horrific’ meal served in one of its business class lounges. 

‘s national carrier has come under fire in recent days for the allegedly declining quality of both general presentation and meals served in both its lounges and onboard its planes. 

One furious customer shared a picture of gruel-like slop served on a Melbourne to LA flight on Monday.

‘Most disgusting food we had in our lives,’ they wrote.

‘One bite of every meal served in QantasQF93 to LA was horrible. Kids spent 14 hours without eating anything at all. 

‘Should put the criminals behind the bars who are running this crappy airline.’

Another customer who flew from Sydney to Melbourne shared an image of what was supposedly a pizza but looked more like a regurgitated pile of olives, peppers and cheese.

The airline even apologised for one of the meals it served in the Sydney Business Class Lounge on Thursday and Friday last week.

One customer described the braised rib dish as ‘horrific’, according to Yahoo News.  

‘This was served up for paying customers. I watched it and even tried it. 

‘This airline has truly gone to the dogs.’

A spokesperson for Qantas said the airline was ‘incredibly disappointed with how this meal was presented’.

‘We pride ourselves on delivering enjoyable dining experiences and this falls well short of our high standards.’

It’s understood the airline has launched an investigation into the meal.

Another disgruntled high-flyer shared pictures of ‘absolutely disgusting’ frayed and stained seats in the Sydney International Business Lounge.

The traveller told Yahoo he was a Lifetime Gold Qantas frequent flyer for the best part of two decades but had stopped flying with them because of declining standards.

‘(I can’t believe) how bad the level of Qantas has got while their prices are ridiculous compared to other international airlines,’ he added.

In a statement to Daily Mail , Qantas said the chairs were replaced last month.

‘The Sydney International Business Lounge is being updated as part of a program which has so far seen 30 new and 70 refreshed armchairs and stools added,’ a spokesperson for the airline said.

‘We’re also replacing the dining chairs this week.’

In the six months to December, Qantas made a $1.25billion underlying profit before tax, down $180million or 12.6 per cent from the $1.43billion figure for the same period in 2022.

Last September, new CEO Vanessa Hudson acknowledged the airline needed to win back the trust of customers.

‘I know that we have let you down in many ways,’ she said.

‘We haven’t delivered the way we should have and we’ve often been hard to deal with.

‘We understand why you’re frustrated, and why some of you have lost trust in us.’
