A man has died and another two are fighting for life after being pulled unconscious from the water at a beach off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road.

A woman who was passing by was able to bring the men to shore one by one as others on the beach attempted resuscitation.

‘Despite their best efforts, one man was declared deceased at the scene,’ police said in a statement.

A man aged in his 20s was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital. As of Sunday night, he was in a serious condition.

A second man aged in his 20s was taken to Geelong Hospital in an ambulance in a critical condition.
