A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 10-year-old girl was discovered dead by police in Rowley Regis.

West Midlands Police said the child was found with injuries at around 12.10pm today in an address on Robin Close. She was confirmed dead at the scene.

A 33-year-old woman, understood to be known to the girl, has been taken into custody for questioning.

Officers have said they are at ‘an early stage’ of their inquiries and a cordon has been put in place at the cul-de-sac while they continue.

Two forensic officers have been spotted working the scene and a blue tent has been erected outside the house.

Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt said: ‘A young girl has tragically lost her life and our thoughts are with her loved ones and all those impacted by this terrible passing.

‘We know how shocking and distressing this will be for the community and we’ll continue to have a police presence and offer our support in the area over the coming days.

‘A suspect has been arrested and detectives are fully investigating the circumstances around this sad death.’

A forensic officer in a white suit from a police incident support unit was seen going into a house near the incident at 7pm, according to Birmingham Live.

One card at the scene read: ‘Rest easy princess.’

A police van was also seen at the scene and the sign of Robin Close had been tied with police tape.
