The baby of a pregnant woman who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run has died after being delivered by an emergency C-section.

April Zoglauer, 21, shockingly passed away after being involved in a hit-and-run with a stolen SUV.

The pregnant California pre-school teacher was struck by a driver in a stolen white 2013 Hyundai and rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Zoglauer was 27 weeks pregnant and her baby was due to be born on January 25 – but had to be delivered urgently through an emergency C-section.

The baby boy – Devontae Aaron Zoglauer – managed to survive for 24 hours after the crash but died on Wednesday night after the devastating series of events.

The other driver involved was heading southbound in the stolen vehicle when they allegedly T-boned Zoglauer’s car before taking off. Two ‘unknown males’ were thought to be in the car, the San Jose Police Department said

Zoglauer was driving eastbound in a 2008 black Nissan sedan on Blossom Hill Road, near Winfield Boulevard by the Westfield Oakridge shopping mall, at around 8:40 pm on Tuesday.

The other driver involved was driving southbound in the stolen vehicle when they allegedly T-boned Zoglauer’s car before taking off.

Two ‘unknown males’ were thought to be in the car, the San Jose Police Department said.

The fateful car crash is still under investigation and it’s currently unclear who had the green light in the situation.

After being rushed to hospital – the body of the driver was identified by the the Santa Clara Medical Examiner as April Zoglauer, 21, of San Jose.

Zoglauer was a beloved teacher at the Play’N’Learn Preschool in San Jose. She had started working at the pre-school as a teenager after volunteering there for years.

The co-owner of the Play’N’Learn said: ‘Her job was just to love on them, and she was good at it.

‘Honestly, I’ve been doing this for 27 years, and I’ve never had somebody else who could do that job. Not the way she could do it.

‘She was a blessing. She meant everything to us.’

Friends of Zoglauer said that just hours before the crash she was talking excitedly about the future as she finished work on Tuesday evening, according to the Mercury News.

She was about to accompany a disabled woman who she often cared for in the evenings on a trip to Hawaii – where she joked that she would spend her spare time relaxing on the beach.

The pre-school’s director Angie Loza said that Zoglauer’s pregnancy was a joy for all of them because she had grown up at the school and they’d all known her for a very long time.

Lariz said that the children attending the pre-school had also gotten excited about the new baby – and they had frequently asked questions about when they could see and hold him.

Now teachers and parents have to tragically explain to the young children that they never will.
