The southern states are set for another day of torrential downpours, thunderstorms and potential flooding, with 33 million people currently under weather warnings. 

Downpours drenched parts of the south on Wednesday and led to disasters being declared in San Jacinto County and Montgomery in Texas. 

While less rainfall is expected, it will still bring with concerns of flooding across the south due to already saturated soil and burst rivers. 

The focus of flooding on Thursday is now stretching from Louisiana to Mississippi and through Alabama into North Georgia. 

33 million people are now under weather warnings across the states, with most places set to see an additional one or two inches of rain.

NBC reported that up to four inches could still potentially fall, especially in parts of southern Louisiana on Friday. 

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm in the state for portions of Tangipahoa Parish, Washington Parish and southern Mississippi on Thursday.

The NOAA’s prediction center has highlighted that hundreds of miles from the Gulf to the interior mid-Atlantic will be at risk of flash flooding. 

There is a greater risk for millions living from the Mississippi Valley to the Tennessee Valley. 

Fox have forecasted that some areas could pick up 1-3 inches of additional rain throughout the end of the week. 

While Brenham, between Austin and Houston has already received more than 12 inches of rain according to the NWS.  

On Wednesday morning, images emerged from Montgomery County in Texas showing the devastation caused by storms earlier in the week. 

The Montgomery County Emergency Service shared images of a street completely submerged in water, saying they rescued five people, eight dogs and a cat from one property.

Storms moved into the region with forecasts from the outlet reporting wind gusts of up to 40 mph. 

On Wednesday, a stretch of wet weather causing chaos in Texas, leaving emergency vehicles under water and and closing schools. 

Some areas outside outside of Austin received more than eight inches of rain within 48 hours. 

A disaster was declared for residents below the Lake Livingston Dam, who had to evacuate the rising water. 

Seventeen people and 15 pets had to be rescued on Wednesday by firefighters from the San Jacinto River floodwaters. 

The San Jacinto River Authority said that after the heavy rainfall, many docks, bulkheads and small islands are submerged and that can be dangerous for boaters.

Residents of a subdivision of about 45 homes in Livingston, located about 70 miles miles north of Houston, were told to shelter in place after a road washed out Tuesday evening.

By Wednesday afternoon, officials had repaired the road enough that it was once again passable for residents, said Polk County Judge Sydney Murphy. 

The rains had caused severe road damage across the county, officials said.

It comes after San Diego was also placed under a flood warning on Monday, after torrential rain swept through California. 

Flash floods inundated homes and overturned cars in San Diego, toppling trees and overflowing streets with videos showing vehicles buried beneath.

All the way up north, early morning flooding hit the town of Guerneville, near San Francisco, where a creek overflowed after more than four inches of rain fell in 24 hours.
