He said: ‘In its truest form, jazz is American music developed from ragtime and blues That is given; but jazz is bigger than that. Yes, that’s right, bigger even than that!

‘We need to doff our fedora to it in so many ways, as it is also the product of music, art, culture, time, geography and a lot of hard work.

‘Gastronomy is equally multi-faceted; a product of fine food availability, art, culture, time, geography and harder work. These cats are running the same line, and have been bedfellows for many generations.

‘Jazz and food are both cultures of their people. Their development and evolution is directly related to the cool ones that love them. As culture travels the globe, it changes to suit geographic tastes – you see this in both jazz and food.

‘These two genres are joined at the hip for reasons of culture, enlightenment, pride, flair, individuality, innovation and raw talent. They are both arts for the common soul and the mark of any true culture is its ever-changing development.’

Sean is best known for playing Martin Platt in ITV series Corrie.

He joined the TV juggernaut in 1985 after unsuccessfully auditioning for the roles of Kevin Webster and Terry Duckworth and last appeared in the programme in 2018.

He has also appeared on Dancing on Ice, The Royal, Doctors, Waterloo Road, Casualty, Silent Witness, Dalziel and Pascoe, Mozart’s Unfinished and The Great Northern Cookbook which was commissioned following the success of Sean’s first book of the same name.

In 2022 Sean insisted he will never return to Coronation Street as a cast member after falling in love with his new career as a cheesemaker.

He left due to a storyline which involved his character Martin seducing an underage girl.

He briefly reprised his role in 2018 for a handful of episodes as part of the David Platt male rape storyline, but in 2022 said he has no plans to ever return.

Sean says soap bosses insisted his character embark on the plot that would see Martin branded a ‘paedophile’ in 2005 even though it made him feel ‘deeply uncomfortable’.

He told The Sun: ‘I didn’t want to do it and suggested they could bring in another actor, but the producer was insistent.

‘It wasn’t for me, so I told them, “No, I will not be doing that storyline and I suggest that maybe you go and have a rethink.”

‘They came back a couple of weeks later and said, ‘No, we do feel that this storyline is going to go ahead.”

As a result, Sean told bosses he would be leaving the serial and departed in 2005.

Sean said it was then announced he’d been sacked, which he insisted was not the case.
