The death of a two-month-old boy in a suburban family home is not being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.

Chance Ford’s body was found in the living room of a property on Swamp Gum Place in Alfredton, in the western suburbs of Ballarat, after 9pm on Saturday.

Neighbours heard screaming coming from the home and went inside to see what was going on.

They were confronted with the sight of the unresponsive baby boy on the floor and tried desperately to save his life, before emergency services arrived and took over.

Chance died at the scene.

His parents, Renee Lockett and Jake Ford, cooperated with police throughout the investigation.

On Monday afternoon, family friend Kristopher Lowe created a GoFundMe to raise money for Chance’s funeral.

‘We are fundraising for baby Chance Ford, funeral expenses and for his seven brother and sisters and other close family who have gone through some serious emotional trauma witnessing his last moments,’ the fundraiser said.

Another family friend, Angela Walker, told 7 News: ‘The mum was just screaming that something had happened, and just crying and yelling.’

‘It was pretty confronting, his dad was out the front pretty upset.’

‘I’m not sure where his mum was but I imagine she was pretty upset, wherever she was.’

She described Chance as a ‘beautiful boy’.

Victoria Police confirmed his death was not being treated as suspicious on Monday afternoon.

‘Police have received the results of a post mortem following the death of a two-month old boy in Alfredton on 20 January,’ a spokesperson said.

‘The matter is not being treated as suspicious and local police will prepare a report for the Coroner.’
