History repeating itself?

Dancing On Ice viewers branded Ricky Hatton ‘the new Todd Carty’ as the retired boxer took to the rink during the series opener on Sunday.

Dressed in a boxing outfit, Ricky wore knee pads as he referenced moves from his sport on the ice and did press-ups to Rocky movie theme tune Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti with his skating partner Robin Johnstone.

Former world champion boxer Ricky, 45, received a total score of 12.5 points out of a possible 40 from the judges.

Ricky’s routine left fans of the show at home in hysterics as they compared him to former EastEnders star Todd Carty, who competed on the show in 2009 and became known for his extensive mishaps – including the time he hurtled off the rink and straight out of the studio as he fought to stop himself falling to the ground.

Stars show support for Holly…

Holly Willoughby was supported by her showbiz pals ahead of her TV return after kidnap ordeal made her retreat from the limelight.

The presenter, 42, shared her first gown of the Dancing On Ice series while hinting at her nerves ahead of her first TV appearance on Sunday since she quit This Morning.

Holly, who is co-hosting with Stephen Mulhern, 46, looked incredible in a dazzling silver strappy dress.

Taking to Instagram an hour before the ITV skating show aired, Holly confidently wrote alongside her snap: ‘Let’s do this one sequin at a time’.

20:07

Tense scenes…

Bottom of the leaderboard was former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton, 45, who received 12.5 points from the judges.

Dressed in a boxing outfit, Ricky wore knee pads as he referenced boxing moves on the ice and did press-ups to Rocky movie theme tune Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti with his skating partner Robin Johnstone.

However, it was not enough to beat his fellow contenders as it was announced Ricky would be in the skate-off next week.

She added: ‘We need to see more of the basic skating. It is improving but you could do more.’

Ricky Hatton 'is the new Todd Carty'…

Dancing On Ice viewers have been comparing Ricky Hatton to former EastEnders star Todd Carty who appeared on the show in 2009.

Actor Todd became known for his comical performances, which saw him hanging on to his skating partner in a bid to stop him falling flat on his face and, at one point, hurtling straight off the rink and out of the studio.

Flying high…

Emmerdale actress Roxy Shahidi was lifted into a helicopter move as she took to the rink.

Judge Oti Mabuse praised her for a ‘beautiful sultry performance’ to You Don’t Own Me by Say Grace with French ice dancer Sylvain Longchambon.

However, Mabuse said Shahidi needed to put her shoulders down to help the look of her movements.

The audience booed as Shahidi and were awarded a total of 20 out of 40 points by the judges.

Off to a good start?

Greg has said he is enjoying training for Dancing On Ice more than he enjoyed Strictly Come Dancing.

The former British track and field athlete, 37, was a contestant on the BBC One dance programme in 2016.

Comparing his experiences, the former Olympian said: ‘I was really c**p at Strictly. So that’s the big thing.

‘It’s amazing how much more you enjoy something when you feel a bit better at doing it…

‘This feels more like a sport to me than Strictly ever did.

‘And obviously, I’d never danced a step in my life before I went on to Strictly and it showed.’

Holly Willoughby is set to return to live television tonight after agreeing to host Dancing on Ice, exclusively revealed last month.

After weeks of deliberating over whether to present the ITV skating show, she signed the deal over Christmas and is said to be ‘excited’ about to getting back to work on the show that she hosted with her former friend Phillip Schofield for many years.

Sources at ITV say the channel’s bosses are ‘delighted’ that she will join Stephen Mulhern for the series, which starts on January 14 almost three months after she learned of an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her by former security guard Gavin Plumb.

An ITV insider told : ‘Holly is a star and everyone was so very much hoping that she would decide to come back.

‘After many discussions and a lot of thought, she thought that getting some normality into her life would be a good thing.

‘There are obvious worries about going on live television, her main priority is her family, ITV have been hugely understanding and have not put any pressure on her at all.

‘They wanted to give her all of the time she needed but it has been a rough decision for her.

‘Time was ticking but the bosses were trying to remain calm.’
