Texas National Guards were seen using riot shields in an attempt to hold back a horde of migrants crossing at Eagle Pass.

New footage taken of a clash which happened a month ago shows guardsmen narrowly avoid being hit by a rock as they struggle against the steady stream of asylum seekers.

A record number of migrants have been passing through the Texan border in recent months, with 14,000 making it over in 24 hour period last month.

Video shows the reality on the ground as asylum seekers are seen scrambling over razor wire and through mud in a desperate attempt to reach the US.

All the while, the Texas national guard can be seen attempting to block their path using plastic riot shields.

As they jostle the crowd which contains at least one child, a rock is thrown towards one soldier’s head narrowly sailing past it.

At one point a female migrant is seen being shunted back across the guardsmen and falling on top of other migrants who scream.

No sooner have the guardsmen closed the gap, another appears further along the border where two more migrants manage to slip through.

Another clip shows a migrant who made it through being thrown to the ground by the national guard.

As he gets up he is escorted to a waiting crowd of people who appears to have already crossed over.

Eagle Pass has become a flashpoint for the migrant crisis with the town struggling to accommodate the steady procession of people arriving from across the Mexican border.

Border Patrol agents in the town ran out of space to process the massive number, and were keeping them in an open field for up to days at a time in a make-shift holding center.

Elsewhere, Border Patrol agents normally posted at roadside checkpoints leading into the US were also been redirected to help in Eagle Pass.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent more than 100,000 migrants who have arrived in the state to sanctuary cities as part of Operation Lone Star

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent more than 100,000 migrants who have arrived in the state to sanctuary cities as part of Operation Lone Star

Earlier this week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed an emergency order to take control of a large public park along the Rio Grande without asking permission.

The park is a new tension point in Eagle Pass, where large waves of migrant arrivals last month temporarily closed a rail crossing and overwhelmed shelters.

U.S. Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas visited Eagle Pass on Monday, days after Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson toured the border city.

But Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas questioned why the state closed the 50-acre park now, since daily apprehensions in the region have fallen in recent weeks.

Shelby Park touches the river, includes a ramp for boaters and has been used by the state to stage vehicles and equipment for its border mission known as Operation Lone Star.

Operation Lone Star was introduced by Abbott in 2022 and sees the state bus thousands of migrants out of Texas and into so-called sanctuary cities such as New York, Chicago, Washington and Denver.

Since its introduction more than 100,000 migrants have been dispatched to such cities so far, according to the governor.
