A mother who is accused of killing her four children in a house fire is facing a trial in the autumn.

Deveca Rose was charged with four counts of manslaughter after a fire ripped through her property in Collingwood Road, Sutton, on December 16, 2021.

The blaze killed her two sets of twins, three-year-olds Leyton and Logan Hoath and Kyson and Bryson Hoath, aged four, who had been left home alone.

On Monday, Ms Rose, of Wallington, south London, appeared at the Old Bailey, charged with the manslaughter of her children, who were aged three and four.

The judge adjourned the plea hearing to March 8 and set a provisional trial of up to four weeks from September 2.

The 29-year-old was not asked to enter pleas to the charges and spoke only to confirm her identity during a short hearing before Judge Mark Lucraft KC.

The trial will be heard at the Old Bailey before Judge Lucraft, who is the Recorder of London.

The four children were home alone when the intense blaze started and tore through the ground floor of the house.

Despite being rescued from the property by firefighters using breathing apparatus and being given CPR at the scene, the four children were later pronounced dead at two south London hospitals.

Rose was subsequently charged with four counts of manslaughter and cruelty to a child under the age of 16.

At the conclusion of her first appearance at the Old Bailey, Judge Lucraft granted her continued conditional bail.

Ms Rose previously spoke of her anguish of having to live without her sons, telling The Times: ‘Bryson, Kyson, Logan and Leyton were my boys, they were my babies, they were my life, they were my world.

‘They were my heart, they were my soul, they were everything. Everything feels so surreal. I can’t function.’

Rose said her four sons loved school, dancing, playing in the park and being with their family.

She added: ‘I can’t get over it, I’ll never get over it. They lit up everybody’s world and I will always be sorry that they went so soon.

‘They had so much planned and now they’re gone. I wake up and I look at their Christmas tree and I look at their clothes, their Liverpool [football] kit, their Cocomelon dressing gowns, their drawings.’

In a statement given to after the fire, the boys’ father Dalton Hoath, 29, said: ‘Myself and my family are utterly devastated by this tragic loss.

‘They were bright, caring, loveable boys, but most of all sons, brothers, grandsons, great-grandsons, nephews and cousins.

‘We would like to thank all the emergency services who did so much to try and save our boys, and also the local community who have come together at this difficult time.’

In a post on Facebook in 2021, their paternal grandfather Jason Hoath wrote: ‘I am devastated to say that the horrendous house fire that took place in Sutton last night leading to four children loosing their lives were my amazing smart and beautiful grandsons.

‘(They were) taken too soon they will always be in our hearts and thoughts.’
