Police have launched a murder probe after the criminal ex-boyfriend of Britain’s youngest EuroMillions winner was shot dead outside a pub in Edinburgh during Hogmanay.
Marc Webley was gunned down near the Anchor Inn just before midnight in what officers have said could have been a ‘targeted attack’ on the 38-year-old.
Following the shooting footage has emerged showing the gangster, who had been dating lottery winner Jane Park until last month, appearing to taunt his enemies calling them ‘chickens’ and telling them to ‘come and get it’.
Webely had been convicted in 2005 of being involved in a gangland shooting and it is reported that the attack could have been linked to an ongoing feud between him and other criminals which had seen him take weapons with him wherever he went.
After news of his death was made public Miss Park, who famously won £1million in 2013 aged 17 before spending most of it on plastic surgery and shopping, posted on social media she was ‘devastated’ by his loss.

The attack, which left Webley dead and another 39-year-old man seriously injured in hospital, happened as he celebrated in the pub with friends.
Footage posted by Webley on his social media in recent weeks showed the gangster taunting his perceived enemies.
In one video, Webley filmed himself walking while carrying a bag, before saying: ‘What’s in the man bag? Come and find out. Come and get it. Tick, tick, boom.’
In another, filmed at a pub where he is singing, he says: ‘Do I look scared? Never. Yous all looked up to me, your boss looked up to me. Remember that?’
He added: ‘One more word – I’ve said a dozen. You’re a chicken. Ahh, you wish your brothers were violent like mine.’
He went on to say he and his brother would ‘be remembered for being violent, your brothers are chickens’, before making reference to attacks on other people and taunting them by saying ‘you’ve done nada’.
Parts of Granton Road and Granton Crescent were sealed off into New Year’s Day as police investigated the shooting.
Detective Superintendent Graham Grant said: ‘This is believed to have been a targeted incident and our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of both men involved.
‘Inquiries are at a very early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened, and while officers have already gathered CCTV and spoken to various people who were in the area at the time, I’d urge anyone with information who hasn’t yet spoken to us to come forward.
‘In particular if anyone has private CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam of the Granton Crescent/Road area around the time of the incident, please bring it to our attention.
‘This incident will undoubtedly have caused concern in the local community and officers will be carrying out extra patrols of the area and I’d like to reassure the public that everything possible is being done to trace whoever is responsible.’
Posting a picture of them together on Instagram today, Jane Park paid tribute to Marc Webley
Posting a picture of them together on her Instagram Stories today, his ex Jane Park revealed they had spoken only yesterday and he had taught her ‘some valuable things in life’.
She wrote: ‘I can’t believe I’m writing this. We spoke yesterday. If I could cuddle you again and tell you everything is going to be OK I would give anything to do it, Marc.
‘The months we spent together, you taught me some valuable things in life and I’ll never ever forget you. I am absolutely devastated. The best bed for you is up there, My Handsome.’
Previously Miss Park had been posting pictures of them together on social media – including the picture she reposted today – until a few weeks ago when she wrote on December 17: ‘There’s nothing worse than being single on a Sunday.’
Today, Webley’s older brother Don posted a picture of him on Facebook and friends wrote their condolences underneath – including Miss Park, who posted a heart emoji.
Another friend said in response: ‘Sorry for your family’s loss mate, RIP Mark.’ A third added: ‘So sorry to hear, Don. Thoughts with you and the family mate.’

And a fourth posted: ‘Totally gutted, stay strong, thoughts are with you all.’ A fifth wrote: ‘Sorry for your loss bud, condolences to all the family.’
One gangland source told the Record: ‘Don posted on his Facebook that Marc went the day he wanted, the way he wanted and then laid down the gauntlet by saying ‘come and get it’. There’s going to be wars in the city if Marc has been murdered.’
Another source with knowledge of the incident told The Sun: ‘Webley was involved in a dispute with a well-known figure from the south of Edinburgh.
‘It had been bubbling away for a while with threats from both sides. Thing is the other guy was in Spain when this happened. Webley left the Anchor Inn just before the bells and was shot outside.
‘It seems like it was by someone waiting who knew he’d be there. Webley is a regular in there so it was fair to assume he’d be there on Hogmanay.’
The source claimed Webley was hit in the neck and head and died at the scene, adding that another man was also shot and is fighting for life in hospital.
Police locked down Granton Road and Granton Crescent outside the pub while investigating the incident after local residents reported hearing gunshots.
One local told the Daily Record: ‘I thought it was fireworks at first then saw all the blue lights, ambulances and armed police. It was bedlam just before the bells.’
The scene in Edinburgh this morning after last night’s shooting incident left Marc Webley dead
A Police Scotland spokesperson said at about 2am today: ‘Road closures are in place on Granton Road and Granton Crescent following an incident which was reported to police around 11.50pm on Sunday, December 31.
‘Officers are at the scene and closures will remain in place while enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.’
contacted Police Scotland this afternoon for an updated statement.
Miss Park previously shared a picture of herself with Webley on Instagram in a bar with the soundtrack of Sir Elton John’s 1994 hit Can You Feel The Love Tonight?.
The pair were also seen one day later in a bar at Edinburgh’s Village Hotel – and she later shared a post from an influencer in an apparent reference to the relationship.
It said: ‘If it makes you happy f***ing go for it’. ‘People are gonna talk about you regardless because if they talked about themselves, no one would listen.’
In October 2022, Webley was cleared of two attempted murders at the High Court in Edinburgh after being accused of trying to ram a car off the road.
He denied repeatedly slamming his car into another vehicle carrying driver Richard Hughes and passenger Lyndsay McLaughlin while travelling at up to 65mph.

Ms McLaughlin gave evidence at the trial but said she was unable to identify their attacker, and prosecutors decided not to proceed with the charges in light of this.
In 2006, Webley was jailed for 11 years at Glasgow’s High Court for attempted murder after being the gunman in a gangland-style ambush on a motorbike.
The victim Peter Simpson was shot in the back in the Granton area of Edinburgh in January the previous year near his home. Webley was wearing a balaclava in the attack and sprayed Mr Simpson with five bullets but only one round hit him.
He sped off on the motorbike with co-accused James Tant – who was also jailed for his part in the attack – and bleeding Simpson was able to make his way to hospital.
