Kevin Spacey took up his role as power-hungry politician Frank Underwood to critique US politics and discuss his own potential run for the White House.

In a Sunday interview with Tucker Carlson on X, Spacey became his House of Cards character and ran through his views on the current election candidates, trigger warnings and the legacy media.

Spacey – as Underwood – said: ‘This country is so mired in contradiction and confusion. We don’t even know how we can help anyone anymore because we can’t agree who needs help.’

‘I mean, what doesn’t come with a trigger warning these days? I mean, we’re far too close to having a beanbag chair in the Oval Office. We’ve coddled everybody.’

Announcing his own potential run for the White House, Spacey – as Underwood –  saying: ‘We need someone in the White House who’s not afraid, like me.’

It is a familiar role for Spacey, who played Underwood for five years on the hit Netflix show.

He was fired by Netflix in 2017 following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, including some by fellow House of Cards cast members.

Last year, Spacey and his production companies were ordered to pay $31 million for losses incurred in his firing.

He then stood trial over allegations from four different men in the UK in July and was cleared of all criminal charges.

Discussing the allegations with Carlson, he said: ‘It is bizarre that they decided to publicly cut ties with me on allegations alone – allegations that have now been proven false – because I don’t think there’s any question: Netflix exists because of me.

‘I put them on the map and they tried to put me in the ground.’

Moving away from the allegations, Carlson and Tucker discussed a potential presidential run for Underwood.

In character, Spacey said: ‘I think we both agree that we need to get some adults back in the room. So if that means taking on the chief executive role, well that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for this great nation.’

Spacey added he would need a running mate and asked if Carlson would be up for the job.

Carlson replied: ‘I’ll sleep on it.’

Discussing his opinions on the country’s social attitudes, Spacey said: ‘OK, you think you’re a rabbit? That’s fine.

‘But let me tell you something. You sure as hell aren’t going to see someone walking through my White House in bunny ears and a tail unless it’s Easter.’

When asked what party he would run for, Spacey said it would likely be as an independent, saying: ‘I’ve always been independent my whole life no matter what my party affiliation, even though at the moment I don’t quite recognize my old party.’

Giving his opinions on the current candidates, Spacey said: ‘I like Vivek. Drain the Ramaswamy. And Nikki Haley is tough. She’s no doubt learned a thing or two by watching me.

‘But I think in the end, we need someone in the White House who’s not afraid like me, not afraid to push our country or a journalist in the right direction if it comes to that.’
