The infamous Radio City Rockettes have revealed the five-minute cardio and strength workout that helps them maintain their shape and stamina.

The dancers shared a preview of their go-to exercises for full-body sweat sessions during their TODAY show segment on Tuesday.

‘We are the Rockettes and we are going to show you one of our circuit trainings that our amazing athletic team has put together. We’re gonna start with a core exercise and then we go into some cardio.’

The five-minute-long training routine includes planks, jumping jacks, banded lateral raises, step side-to-sides, deadlifts, mountain climbers, crunches and jump flick kicks.

The Rockettes’ five-minute workout routine

  1. Planks
  2. Jumping Jacks
  3. Banded lateral raises
  4. Step side-to-sides
  5. Deadlifts
  6. Mountain climbers
  7. Crunches
  8. Jump flick kicks 

The Rockettes recommended doing each movement for 30 seconds each.

The first exercise is the plank which involves maintaining a position similar to a push-up for the maximum possible time.

The aim is to keep your back as straight as possible while squeezing your quads. 

If you are struggling, come down to your elbows or onto your knees for extra support.

The next move is jumping jacks which start off by having your legs together and arms down by your side.

Simultaneously jump and widen your stance in your upper and lower body, making a V-shape on the top and bottom.

Then, come back to the starting point and repeat the movement. 

The following exercise is called the banded lateral raise which involves the use of a resistance band.

As you stand straight, hold down the resistance band’s center with your foot and pull your arms from your sides to a horizonal stance.

Crunches (pictured) are second to last in their routine. Start off by lying down on your back with both knees bent and your feet remaining flat on the floor

The final step is called jump flick kicks (pictured) which involves you keeping your hands on your hips and jumping with both feet and taking turns kicking each foot in front of you

Starting on the right side, step up on the elevation with both feet on top, then lower yourself on the left side and keep repeating the movement.

Deadlifts are next in the workout.  

With weights in hand, start off by standing tall with your arms to the sides. 

Then, bend over at the waist while maintaining a clean line and keeping your back straight.

But the hard work does not end there with mountain climbers the next on the list.

Fitness fanatics must first get into a plank position before pulling a knee up towards the chest and returning back to the original pose. Then alternate which leg you are using.

Crunches are second to last in their routine. Start off by laying down on your back with both knees bent and your feet remaining flat on the floor.

Put your hands behind your back and engage your core by pulling your upper body towards your knees with the help of your abs.

And, if you would like, you can use an exercise ball for added support.

Besides participating in the five-minute workout, the Rockettes stay in shape by participating in barre, cycling, running and jumping rope, according to the Rockettes website

The final step of the grueling routine is called jump flick kicks which involves keeping your hands on your hips. 

While keeping balance on your tip toes, alternate kicking each foot out in front of you.

Besides participating in the five-minute workout, the Rockettes stay in shape by taking part in barre, cycling, running and jumping rope, according to the group’s official website.

The dancers also engage in ballroom dancing, HIIT, Pilates, yoga, Barry’s boot camp and dance cardio to stay fit.
