George Clooney joked about the process of casting Hitler while promoting his latest film project on Monday on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.
The 62-year-old Hollywood star was promoting the sports drama The Boys In The Boat that he directed and also co-produced.
The film follows the University of Washington crew team that represented the United States at the 1936 Summer Olympic games in Berlin.
‘I do want to ask you about that. What is the process of casting, of finding your Hitler?,’ Jimmy, 56, asked.
‘It’s tricky. Because guys put on like little crappy mustaches and tape themselves,’ George said while looking dapper in a grey suit.

‘And you’re like, dude. The good news is you got the part. The bad news is you’re Hitler. What is it?,’ George said.
Jimmy joked that he would never provide video of himself with a Hitler mustache to George and then asked George what he did after finding his Hitler.
‘Well, it’s depressing obviously. It’s kind of a relief, actually, because when you’re shooting a period piece, and you’re doing something, this is 1936. Everybody knew Hitler was kind of a bad guy, had no idea how much worse it was going to get,’ George said.
Jimmy said it was interesting to him that the Americans were cheered when they came in to Berlin by the Germans.
‘Right before all hell broke loose,’ George said.
‘It was a funny thing. We were shooting, we were in London and we would ahve to shoot in all of these places and hang swastikas up and it was horrible. And you always apologize. ”I’m so sorry.” And we were shooting at the Greenwich Naval Academy museum and it’s very British. And this old gentleman comes up, he’s wearing the medals, and he’s like, ”Right. What is it exactly you’re going to be shooting here?” We were scouting the locations. And I said, ”Well, we’re going to hang some swastikas up on the thing.” And he looked at me and he goes, ”Right. But no French flags, right?” And I said, ”No”. That s*** runs deep,’ George said.
The Boys In The Boat is based on the 2013 film of the same name by Daniel James Brown and stars Callum Turner and Joel Edgerton.
The film is scheduled to be released by Amazon MGM Studios in the United States on December 25.

It is the ninth film that Clooney has directed. His previous directing credits include the 2002 film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, the 2017 film Suburbicon, and the 2021 film The Tender Bar.
George can next be seen along with Brad Pitt in the upcoming psychological action film Wolves written and directed by Jon Watts.
Brad and George are also co-producers of Wolves, which follows two professional fixers who find themselves hired for the same job.
George has been married since 2014 to Amal Clooney, 45, and they have six-year-old twins daughter Ella and son Alexander.
