She stole the hearts of the nation when she played obstetrician Nina Proudman in Offspring, but some took their love for the series a little too far.

Asher Keddie has recalled the moment she had to comfort a ‘distraught’ fan who couldn’t get over the death of Asher’s on-screen lover Patrick Reid.

Dr Patrick (Matthew Le Nevez) died in season four after being hit by a car and some fans refused to accept his fate.

‘I had one encounter in particular in a… pharmacy. Someone came up to me and was truly, truly angry and distraught that we had done that,’ Asher told Yahoo Lifestyle.

‘And truly, clearly thought she was talking to Nina or not me, I don’t know, she was so confused, the poor thing, and she just was so devastated.

‘So I think I spent like 20 minutes in that pharmacy that day trying to comfort her and explain why we chose to do what we do because it was really meaningful to her, and it had really rocked her world.’

Despite how uncomfortable the woman’s severe reaction must have been for the Stateless star, Asher said she ‘appreciated’ the moment nonetheless.

She went on to say it was meaningful for her to have ‘connected’ so well with an n audience.

This week the Logie Award winning actor admitted she won’t be returning to Ten’s popular drama Offspring despite rumours of a reboot.

After starring in the show for seven seasons, Asher said she is happy to leave Nina’s storyline where it ended.

In the finale episode of season seven, Nina made the shock decision to resign from  St Francis Hospital.

‘I used to hesitate answering that question. I’d think, “Oh, I never say never.” But [Nina] was in her thirties and what made it so tumultuous and entertaining, watching her navigate her thirties and try and find love, would be so utterly different now, with me almost 50, that I can’t see it,’ she told TV Week.

‘I still love hearing people’s thoughts about it and hearing that people are watching it for the third or fourth time. I think, “Wow, what an amazing thing to have been involved with.” But I think we left it where we should have.’

Despite the actress’s unwillingness to return, industry insiders have claimed there are ‘tentative discussions’ in progress to revive the hit drama for a limited season.

According to New Idea, the source says one early idea was to do an Offspring version of the 2016 Gilmore Girls Netflix revival.
