Three Yellowstone alumni have joined the show’s heartthrob Luke Grimes for his hotly anticipated spin-off Y: Marshals.
Luke, 41, became a household name on the smash hit series playing Kayce Dutton, the son of Kevin Costner’s rancher patriarch John Dutton.
This March, three months after Yellowstone aired its finale, news broke that Luke will be reprising his role as Kayce on an upcoming procedural.
It has since emerged that the show will be called Y: Marshals and will center on Kayce working for the U.S. Marshals, armed with the skills he previously cultivated during his time as a Navy SEAL and a cowboy.
Now seven new cast members have been unveiled – including three whom Yellowstone fans will instantly recognize from the original program.
Child star Brecken Merrill, now 17, will return to his role as Kayce’s son Tate Dutton, along with Gil Birmingham as Broken Rock Reservation chief Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty as his aide-de-camp Mo, according to Deadline.

American Horror Story star Ash Santos, Killers of the Flower Moon actor Tatanka Means and The Vampire Diaries alumna Arielle Kebbel have also been cast.
They are joining the program as series regulars, playing Kayce’s fellow U.S. Marshals respectively called Andrea, Miles and Belle.

Meanwhile Brett Cullen, who played Batman’s father Thomas Wayne in Joker, will recur as the Montana head of the U.S. Marshals Harry Gifford.
Y: Marshals will also feature Prometheus hunk Logan Marshall-Green, whose casting as Kayce’s old military buddy Pete Calvin was announced earlier this month.
It has yet to be revealed whether Kelsey Asbille will be reprising her Yellowstone role as Monica Dutton, Kayce’s wife and Tate’s mother.
The show’s logline says Kayce will attempt to ‘bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.’
Luke starred throughout the hugely successful five-season run of Yellowstone as Kayce Dutton, one of the family of ranchers at the center of the story.
Kevin left the show after filming only the first half of season five, prompting his character John to be killed off in a murder-for-hire plot.

Now it has been announced Brecken Morrill (center) is returning as Kayce’s son Tate, though it remains unannounced whether Kelsey Asbille (left) will return as Kayce’s wife Monica

Gil Birmingham is also coming back as Broken Rock Reservation chief Thomas Rainwater (left) and Mo Brings Plenty as his aide-de-camp Mo (right), according to Deadline

Yellowstone star Luke Grimes has put his time on the show firmly behind him as he plugs his star-studded, twisted new western
His departure came under a cloud of rumors that he feuded with Taylor Sheridan, though he evidently ultimately left the show over scheduling conflicts with his own four-part Western movie Horizon, which he directed, starred in and co-wrote.
Horizon, a decades-long passion project that Kevin poured over $38 million of his own money into, debuted its first part last year to dismal box office results.
Meanwhile Yellowstone aired the last half of season five in 2024, dividing fans – and shortly thereafter, Luke gave a telling interview about Kevin’s exit.
‘Hopefully everyone can see that it was time,’ Luke said of John Dutton being killed off, in an interview with Men’s Health. ‘To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone.’
He shared: ‘Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around… Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.’
Luke revealed he had not spoken to Kevin since the Oscar-winner left the show, explaining with a laugh: ‘It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything; its just, he’s Kevin Costner. He’s a big deal.’
He clarified: ‘I do have his phone number – I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out. He can reach out to me if he wants.’
In footage exclusively obtained by the Daily Mail, Kevin shut down a question about feud rumors with Luke, but confirmed they had not spoken since the finale aired.
