Travis Kelce’s hometown of Cleveland has been hailed for its witty social media post celebrating the NFL star’s engagement to Taylor Swift.
‘Local man and his new fiancée stun in engagement pics,’ read the post by the City of Cleveland’s official X account Tuesday afternoon.
It was accompanied by the stunning photos of Kelce proposing to Swift in a rose-filled garden.
The post was a play on local newspaper stories that seek to hammer home how a subject is connected to their locality.
Moments later, the City of Cleveland account shared a link to a Cleveland magazine story about the city’s 24 best wedding venues – just in case the celebrity pair needed help finding a spot for their big day.
Many of those who responded praised Cleveland locals for their funny spin on the day’s huge showbusiness story.
Abby McNamara wrote: ‘Love this post…what a great way to put it.’
SweetlySamantha replied: ‘lol love it!’
And Diary of Shame said: ‘cleverrrrrrr cleveland – well done,’ accompanied by a saluting face emoji.
‘Hilarious! well played!,’ Kimberly Taylor comments.
‘This wins the best post award,’ Elizabeth Brennan added.
‘Banger caption. Dead,’ wrote Liza Mejia.
Another person appeared to poke fun at the outlet’s choice of words, stating: ‘These two seem cute. Who are they?’
Philly See chimed in: ‘Genius. Love this.’
The local outlet’s witty caption stemmed from Swift’s post, where she said: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’
The pop icon and the NFL star, both 35, who have been dating for two years, officially revealed their marriage news with a romantic photoshoot showing Kelce proposing in a rose garden.
Her stunning ring is an Old Mine Brilliant Cut and appears to be from Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry. It is worth an estimated $675,000 to $1 million.
The star shared the post on her Instagram, set to ballad So High School, which is about her enduring love for Kelce.
Swift wore a $400 striped silk-blend dress by Ralph Lauren for her proposal, which featured a ruched top and halter neckline.
Swift tied her simple look together with one of her favorite jewelry pieces, which was a gold Santos Demoiselle Watch by Cartier.
The watch costs $18,330, according to the Taylor Swift Styled Instagram page.
The couple went public with their relationship in September 2023 when the singer appeared alongside Kelce’s mother, Donna, at a Kansas City Chiefs game.
Since that day their romance has captivated the world, with Swift supporting Kelce’s run to two Super Bowls while the NFL star has traveled alongside her around the globe on her wildly successful Eras tour.
A source confirmed to Page Six that Kelce actually proposed to the pop superstar ‘a couple of weeks ago’ although the exact date is unknown.
In the wake of the announcement, Swift, Kelce and her hit Love Story began trending.
Swift’s longtime pals, supermodel Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, and Cara Delevingne were quick to like the post, showing support from her girl squad.
But Blake Lively was absent from the list of likes, continuing a rocky chapter in her friendship with the Shake It Off singer.
The engagement news comes almost two weeks after Swift announced her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, New Heights.
In her most candid chat ever, Swift admitted she thought Kelce was ‘crazy’ for asking her out so publicly.
The sportsman famously spoke on his podcast about attending one of Swift’s concerts in July 2023 and being disappointed when they couldn’t meet, revealing he’d even brought a friendship bracelet to give to her.
She compared Kelce to a John Hughes movie character, joking he was outside her window with a boombox yelling: ‘I wanna date you! Do you wanna go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet. Do you wanna date me?’
Swift said: ‘I was like, if this guy isn’t crazy — which is a big if — this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.’
Kelce’s brother Jason went on to ask the Fearless hitmaker: ‘How did you know he wasn’t crazy?’ to which she replied: ‘He is crazy, Jason. He’s the good kind of crazy.’
