A UK hidden escape is home to Britain’s smallest beach as it is only just wider than a large towel, it has been revealed.
The tiny beach is so small hardly anyone knows it exists.
The secret sandy space that is just seven foot wide is located in the heart of exclusive Sandbanks, famed for its luxurious houses on idyllic beaches.
It is at the end of a public footpath that leads to the edge of Poole Harbour.
On one side of it is a private yacht club and the other is a row of beach front mansions on The Horseshoe.
A slatted timber fence has been built next to the last house to separate the public and private spaces.
As a result it has left a plot of sand about 15ft long that is never used as it appears to have no purpose.
It is said this has just been done by the neighbouring homeowners to ward off other visitors, but it is in fact public land and now makes a hidden beach that a savvy sunseeker can enjoy all to themselves.
Sandbanks historian Jeremy Waters said: ‘Some of the houses on The Horseshoe have put up fencing to make it look as though the shoreline is private and belongs to them.
‘But it is a public beach, hence the public footpath down to it, it’s just that nobody really knows it is public.’
The local council has erected a sign encouraging the public to use the space.
It states that members of the public are entitled to ‘stop to look at the view, have a picnic or to launch a watercraft.’
