alert-–-earthquake-rattles-homes-in-south-australia-overnightAlert – Earthquake rattles homes in South Australia overnight

A magnitude 2.8 earthquake has struck the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Murraylands on Sunday night.

The quake, measuring 2.8 in magnitude, occurred at 10.01pm at a depth of 2km south of Strathalbyn.

While a 2.8 earthquake is generally considered to be on the weaker side, it was strong enough to rattle windows and produce a loud rumble noise.

Many residents took to social media to report the quake.

‘I live in a 130-year-old house in Strathalbyn it rattled the windows and shook the house,’ one said.

A second added:  ‘Scared us. Whole house shook, was louder than thunder. Windows rattled.’

Geoscience received more than 800 ‘felt reports’.

Those reports claimed residents felt tremors as far north as Angle Vale, south to Victor Harbor and east to Wellington.
