An Air New Zealand flight has been diverted to Sydney due to a mechanical issue onboard the plane mid-journey.
Flight ANZ175 from Auckland to Perth was diverted near the northern part of Tasmania and is now headed for Sydney.
The seven-and-a-half-hour flight left Auckland just before 12.30pm local time and was scheduled to arrive in Perth just before 4pm.
Flight radar data shows that the plane diverted north 2193km into the 5336km flight.
Air New Zealand and Sydney Airport were contacted for comment.
