Amy Schumer is on the mend following a recent spinal surgery.

The slimmed-down actress, 44, posed with a walker as she explained to her fans on social media why she needed the procedure.

‘Since my surfing injury back in the day my L5 has been killing me,’ she explained.

The Emmy winner was seriously injured in a surfing accident while she was in high school.

‘Today I got a laminectomy! It’s a short recovery and when I’m feeling better I will buy a bra!

According to the Mayo Clinic, ‘Laminectomy is surgery to remove the back arch or part of a spinal bone… called the lamina, (which)  covers the spinal canal. Laminectomy enlarges the spinal canal to ease pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.’

About a week before the surgery, Schumer shared that she had fallen off of a horse during a riding lesson with her son.

‘I took a deep breath and got my 44 year old, bad backed a** right back up on that horse and rode and trotted and it sent a message to those (riding students) and myself,’ she wrote.

She also revealed she had been taking Pilates, which she believed helped prevent a more serious injury.

Freeman reached out to director Alexander Hammer, after watching Expecting Amy, a documentary series about the actress’ difficult pregnancy.   Freeman noticed some similarity between herself and Schumer’s husband Chris Fischer, who was diagnosed during the making of the series.

Schumer and Fischer got involved because ‘There aren’t that many people who are out,’ she told Variety.

‘My husband is out, and that might not be what everybody’s thing is, but yes, we want to definitely de-stigmatize autism.’

Room to Move debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and is available to watch on Prime.
