The furore surrounding Sydney Sweeney is far from euphoric, and her so far silent reaction has left her at risk of losing fans.
The 27-year-old actress starred in an ad for American Eagle with the tagline ‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ (punning on ‘genes’), which didn’t sit well with some of her left-leaning supporters, who went so far as to say the commercial was pushing eugenicist ideals.
But despite the growing backlash, Sweeney has remained remarkably silent.
Those who know her say we should hardly be surprised.
After all, this is the same woman who quietly confirmed her failed engagement with a simple ‘yes’ when a journalist asked if she was single.
Sweeney also kept famously schtum when she was said to be involved in an affair with her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell.
She rarely posts about her personal life, and almost never gives interviews.
But now, a source has exclusively revealed to the Daily Mail that Sweeney may soon be making an exception, saying: ‘She will tell her story eventually in some type of interview.’

Sydney Sweeney has been bashed online and accused of being ‘racist’ as former fans labeled the American Eagle denim ad as ‘Nazi propaganda’
The exact timings of a formal sit-down, to discuss the American Eagle fallout, are unclear, as she is currently ‘trying to figure out where she stands in Hollywood and where she will be able to go’, the insider added.
But speak out she will, for she knows ‘she will be asked about it over and over and over until she eventually answers’.
Amid the backlash, it has emerged that Sweeney is a registed Republican – news that President Donald Trump himself has welcomed.
He called the news ‘fantastic’, adding: ‘You’d be surprised at how many people are Republican.’
But on that question of politics, it seems Sweeney will not be drawn. ‘She will never tell you or anyone close to her about her politics, especially now, as it will dictate her trajectory in Hollywood,’ our insider explained.
It is unclear if she ‘supports Trump or even respects his comments about her.’

As well as Sweeney’s newfound Republican supporters, American Eagle itself has spoken up in her defense.
‘”Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” is and always was about the jeans,’ the brand wrote on Instagram. ‘Her jeans. her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.’
But now the actress knows she must speak herself. ‘She is expecting controversy and being in conversations that might be uncomfortable,’ our source added.
Daily Mail has contacted Sweeney for comment.
