She became a world leader aged just 34.

So it’s no wonder Sanna Marin is celebrating some much needed downtime.

The former Finnish Prime Minister, who has traded in parliament and diplomatic chats for partying and rubbing shoulders with celebs, has shared snaps from her recent travels.

Pictures show the former politician, now 38, enjoying a dip in the sea, as well as relaxing on a balcony and sipping on coffee.

A carousel of pictures shared to Instagram also features ’38’ balloons in a luxurious hotel bath tub indicating her recent birthday.

Other snaps show her enjoying a drink in a wine bar, a posing with her former chief of staff Tuulia Pitkänen.

Sanna, who was known as the ‘party Prime Minster’ for going out and enjoying herself while in office has been enjoying a single girl summer after losing the Finnish general election and divorcing her husband.

Over the summer, she headed to Flow – a music festival in Helsinki.

Appearing much more like a typically 30-something than a former world leader, the ‘rock star’ politician opted for chunky heels with a mini skirt and bralette in a series of photos she shared to Instagram.

One outfit simply isn’t enough for Sanna.  On another occasion, she flaunted a festival chic look in a sheer black dress and reflective sunglasses.

The former Prime Minister, who was just 34 when she took office in 2019, really let down her hair down in – what she calls a – ‘proper summer vacation for the first time in a while’.

And it seems that she is continuing her fun, as she recently headed to LA where she met list A-lister Sharon Stone among others in the Beverley Hills set.

Sanna is working as a strategic counsellor for Tony Blair’s institute and is regularly rubbing shoulders with Hollywood royalty.

While in Los Angeles she joined the Basic Instinct actress, 65, for a lunch at the Finnish Consulate. Sharon invited for her was activism work.

It appears the pair became fast friends after discussing democracy, human rights, and equal opportunities over lunch.

Sanna shared a snap of the unlikely pair, Sharon gushed: ‘You are so cool so smart and so beautiful. That must be too tough for the men to cope with,’.

Sharon may be referencing Sanna’s recent divorce.  She split amicably with husband of three years, Markus Raikkonen in May.

While in Southern California, Sanna also shared snaps from the Beverly Hills Hotel – an exclusive A-list hangout. She also chatted to students at UCLA.

The trip may be the latest hint the former party girl is ditching dancing and diplomacy for directing.

Hints she has aspirations on the silver screen were first seen in September, when Variety reported hat the ex-politician had signed with talent management firm Range Media Partners, who have worked with the likes of Keira Knightley, Tom Hardy and Bradley Cooper.

The outlet also revealed that in June, HBO had released a docuseries about Sanna’s challenges as a woman in the political space.

‘Thank you LA… and see you next time!’ she wrote in a caption of an Instagram post hinting at her return stateside.

Sanna – who lost the Finnish general election and divorced her husband – had been enjoying a fun-filled single girl summer where she ditched blazers and suits for chunky heels and mini skirts.

But it now seems the raver outfits have been switched again for cocktail dresses and casual luxury.

Last month, she headed to Paris Fashion Week, where she took a prime seat at Victoria Beckham’s show – in one of VB’s dresses of course.

She shared a series of glamorous selfies from behind-the-scenes of the A-list event attended by Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Pamela Anderson, David Beckham, and Eva Longoria.

With a bright red lipstick and trendy £1024 Victoria Beckham draped mini sleeve dress, Sanna appeared more like an influencer than a politician.

She also shared pictures and videos behind the scenes at the show (to her one million followers),  including various details of sleek black outfits – including one suit that she paired with trainers because she ‘loves walking’.

The new fray into glamorous living comes at the end of a long year for Sanna, who was at one point the youngest leader of a nation, having taken high office at just 34 years old in 2019.

She stepped down from her role as chair of the centre-left Social Democrats party earlier this year, after her party narrowly lost an election in April.

She has since joined Tony Blair’s Institute for Global Change, a London-based policy think-tank, as a ‘Strategic Counsellor’.

The pair, who have a five-year-old daughter together, said in a statement at the time: ‘We are grateful for the 19 years together and our beloved daughter. We will remain best friends.’

After her tumultuous spring, she took some time to enjoy herself, and was spotted at Flow, a music festival in Helsinki, in August.  She was joined by a group of friends, including fellow MP Nasima Razmyar.

In another post, she explained how it’s her first holiday ‘in a while’. ‘This summer I’ve had a proper summer vacation for the first time in a while,’ she wrote.

‘It has included, among other things, being busy with [her five-year-old daughter] Emma, sports, friends, good food and unforgettable trips.

‘Have a lovely summer everyone. And thank you to those who are working in the summer and taking care of us!’.

After leading her country through COVID-19 lockdowns and the ensuing economic turmoil, Marin became a vocal supporter of Ukraine after Russia’s invasion last year and successfully pushed to end Finland’s military non-alignment in favour of NATO membership.

While many called her a millennial inspiration who encouraged younger people to be less apathetic towards politics, she was still a controversial figure in Finland.

Finnish voters concerned with issues like immigration and a growing public deficit in April handed Marin a narrow defeat to the right wing National Coalition and the far-right Finns party, triggering the government’s fall.

She weathered several publicity storms while in office, including over her nightclubbing during the pandemic, hosting private parties at her official residence and voluntarily taking a drug test – which returned negative – after a party video was leaked to the media.

Scores of complaints were filed to Finland’s chancellor of justice, Tuomas Pöysti, after Sanna was shown dancing and partying with friends and celebrities, which made headlines around the world.

But the chancellor, an independent office responsible for overseeing the legality of government activities and to which any citizen can lodge complaints, concluded that Sanna had not neglected her duties as prime minister.

Pöysti said that there was ‘no reason to suspect the prime minister of unlawful conduct in the performance of her duties or of neglect of her official duties’.

At the time of the scandal, Marin said she spent ‘an evening with friends’ and that the videos were ‘filmed in private premises’. ‘I am human. And I too sometimes long for joy, light and fun amidst these dark clouds,’ she said.

Complaints to the chancellor alleged that Marin was unfit to work ‘due to alcohol consumption’, claimed her behaviour was inappropriate for a prime minister and that she undermined Finland’s ‘reputation and security’.

But the chancellor said the complaints failed to establish that Marin had omitted or jeopardised a ‘specific official duty’.

Assessing the ‘moral and social’ dimension of a prime minister’s leisure activities is ‘a matter for parliament,’ the chancellor said, adding that: ‘Political accountability is also weighed periodically in democratic elections’.

In August, Marin took a drug test, which was negative, to clear up any suspicion voiced by some that comments heard on the video referred to narcotics – something heavily debated on social media and strongly denied by the prime minister.

The backlash over the incident led to several prominent female political figures around the world showing their support for her.

In August former secretary of state Hillary Clinton tweeted: ‘As Ann Richards said, “Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels.” Here’s me in Cartagena while I was there for a meeting as Secretary of State. Keep dancing, @marinsanna’.

Sanna was also heavily criticised after she was spotted at a nightclub in the small hours of the morning, shortly after she had made contact with her health minister who had just tested positive for COVID-19.

In August last year, the politician was once again thrown into controversy after influencer Sabina Särkkä had to apologise for a taking a topless kissing photo with another model at the bathroom of the premier’s official residence, Helsinki Times reports.

That same month, according to the outlet, she and Sabina were also filmed dancing seductively with one another in a night club.
