Season 2 of Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test came to a close on Monday, with three of the five finalists emerging victorious – Olympic speed skater Erin Jackson and The Bachelor stars Nick Viall and Tyler Cameron.

Internet personality Jojo Siwa voluntarily bowed out halfway through the final phase, while reality star Tom Sandoval was removed earlier by a mysterious adjuticator known only as The Umpire.

The episode begins with the challenge is on its eighth day, with the narrator revealing, ‘The recruits have been captured, and will now face up to 12 hours of military grade interrogation.’

Billy adds in confession, ‘This is now the final stage. Now, the question you’re asking yourself is, “Can I survive? Will I survive?”’

A title card reveals that, ‘Resistance to interrogation is a key stage of Special Forces selection. It prepares recruits for enemy capture by subjecting them to techniques not permitted by the Geneva Conventions.’

They bring in a team of expert interrogators (John, Erine, Dilksy), who the narrator says has, ‘over 30 years combined experiences,’ along with an adjudicator only known as The Umpire, ‘who cannot be identified for security reasons.’

‘Resistance to interrogation is the toughest phase that Special Forces operators will go through. That’s because this is primarily a mental exercise. It’s psychological warfare. The interrogators are never your friend. They are always the enemy and never to be trusted,’ The Umpire says.

The interrogators and Rudy start discussing the recruits, starting with Number 3 – Jojo Siwa, who Rudy says is, ‘the youngest of our recruits, but extremely motivated. Lots of energy. The poster child of influencer. She is very comfortable being on.’

They move to Number 5 – Tyler Cameron – who Rudy describes as, ‘a model, very “All American.” He has a brother who is a soldier, and, I believe, always, he’s thought that his brother is the real hero, the real man.’

Rudy moves on to Number 6 – Erin Jackson – who he describes as, ‘30 years old, Olympic gold medalist speed skater. Speed skating is so individual. Out here in a team environment, she tends to be a wallflower.’

Rudy describes Number 12 – Nick Viall – as, ‘a gray man,’ adding, ‘We expected him to do better throughout the course. However, the last couple days, he’s come on stronger.’

They finish with Number 4 – Tom Sandoval – with Rudy adding that he is, ‘going through something so difficult, personally. I think he’s vulnerable.’

The Umpire adds, ‘But the reality of now is, if, if… If he fails to communicate effectively, he won’t succeed here. Let’s do it.’

Tyler Cameron is seen rubbing his hands together to try to stay warm, but he’s told, ‘Keep rubbing your hands together, I will shove them up your a**.’

Jason “Foxy” Fox adds in confession, ‘The aim of interrogation is to push the recruits to see where their breaking point is.’

Tom Sandoval is asked who told him he could put his gloves on but he sheepishly says his hands are cold.

One of the captors says, ‘You need to learn you don’t do anything unless we tell you, do you understand?’

Fox adds, ‘You will be tired, exhausted, cold, hungry. And you’ve got to push all that to one side. You have to survive by making people think that you’re worth keeping alive.’

The narrator adds, ‘Due to the high risk involved in interrogation, the Umpire is responsible for the safety of this phase. And has the power to remove recruits at any point if he deems them incapable of continuing.’

‘I am the Umpire, and I’m in charge of this phase. I cannot be impersonated. If at any point you wish to leave this phase, you simply raise your hand and you ask to speak to the Umpire,’ he tells them.

Cameron says in confession, ‘My brother Austin being in the army, it’s always been something I’d be scared to do. So getting to the finish line, that’s my ultimate goal here. It’s to prove to myself that I can get there.’

Siwa says in confession, ‘I get a lot of my mental strength -from my mom. I’ll do everything in my power to make sure that I do not lose. I want to be more than just a dance competition kid.’

Sandoval adds in confession, ‘With everything going on right now, I do at times feel like I have been interrogated in the past. I’m definitely nervous about the interrogation portion.’

The narrator adds, ‘The recruits have been on the run overnight without food and sleep. Now they will face worse. Kept in a cell -in freezing temperatures. They will be hooded, bound, and put in stress positions. And subjected to distressing sounds.’

Foxy says, ‘The holding room is somewhere you don’t want to be. It is horrendous. Even the strongest of recruits can literally wither away and give up in that place.’

The narrator adds, ‘The recruits are about to face Stage 1 of interrogation: Processing,’ as a title card reveals there is 10 hours and 40 minutes left of this final challenge.

The Umpire adds, ‘I want them to try and build some sort of rapport with the interrogator. They’ve got to humanize themselves. They’ve got to make it difficult for these people to want to hurt you.’

The participants all meet their interrogators, as the Umpire reveals they make the candidates strip, adding, ‘it’s about making the individual feel vulnerable’ and, ‘wherever they came from or whatever they were doing, that they’re now in our world and our control.

One of the interrogators blacks out Viall’s tattoos with a marker, adding, ‘What these things meant to you, don’t apply here.’

Interrogated: Sandoval adds in confession, ‘With everything going on right now, I do at times feel like I have been interrogated in the past. I'm definitely nervous about the interrogation portion'

Siwa meets with her interrogator, Dilksy, as she tries immediately to build a bond with him, as the Umpire notices right away she seems, ‘arrogant.’

Siwa says in confession, ‘When people first meet me, in my head, they are judging everything about me.’

Dilksy asks, ‘Got anything worth money?’ as Siwa smiles and says, ‘I don’t. Just this,’ and points to her face, as the Umpire notes, ‘She thinks she’s winning. It’s good.’

Dilksy asks, ‘Do you reckon I could make money out of this?’ as Siwa turns on the charm and says, ‘Yeah. That scar? It’s badass.’

Foxy adds in confession, ‘The key to interacting with an interrogator is to make them like you. Be a human, be yourself.’

Dilksy asks about her friends and asks why she went ‘high-pitched,’ as she says her friends are all celebrities.

When he asks who her favorite celebrity is, she says, ‘Elton John. He’s actually a good friend of mine,’ which impresses Dilksy.

The Umpire notes, ‘For a 20-year-old, that was a good performance. That is a sharp operator.’

Erine approaches Tyler Cameron, and asks what’s around his neck, as he says it’s a compass but he doesn’t know how to use it.

She jokes, ‘Remind me not to go traveling with you,’ as Tyler adds, ‘No, we can go hang out at a nice warm hotel. We’re not going to go camping.’

She adds, ‘Oh, offering me a hotel?’ as Cameron says, ‘Yeah,’ as Tyler says in confession, ‘You know, I’ve been blessed, you know, with good looks and charisma and fun, and never really felt intimidated in any room I ever walked into. So this doesn’t strike me as a hotel vibe.’

Foxy says in confession, ‘The worst thing you can do with an interrogator is come across arrogant. Trying to be cocky,’ as Erine tells him to strip.

He gets flirty with Erine again and she dunks his face in a tank of cold water, as the Umpire says, ‘He’s just letting himself down.’

They note that it’s three hours into the interrogation and notice that Sandoval is shivering, as the doctor notes he’ll give him the ‘once-over for hypothermia,’ and if he doesn’t think he’s fit, he’ll remove him.

Sandoval is brought in to see the doctor, who asks him if he’s cold and Sandoval says, ‘Yeah, it’s a little chilly.’

The doctor says this is ‘actually warm’ because it’s, ‘going to get chillier. Do you understand that?’

A frustrated Sandoval says, ‘I understand it ‘cause you just told me,’ as the others note he doesn’t look weak anymore.

Billy says in confession, ‘People will try for medical withdrawals because they haven’t got the courage to put their hand up and say, “This is too tough.” We will see through it. We will not accept it.’

The Umpire adds, ‘If you’re gonna play a medical card, play it when you’re really, really miserable,’ as Rudy adds, ‘Get a chance to show that you’re valuable first. This is not the time.’

Sandoval has been deemed medically fit as he faces processing with John, who asks him to strip, though Tom complains about his knees hurting him.

The Umpire asks the others, ‘If you’re making decisions about keeping prisoners, what are you thinking about him?’

Erine says, ‘He’s not endearing at all,’ as Tom admits in confession, ‘Mentally, I’m already really stretched. Sleep deprived, sensory deprived. Shouted at, tortured. That could be a point where I crack.’

Tom puts on a jumpsuit as John says, ‘I want you to forget about this. There is no more you. So start listening to what you’re being told. No messing around. No delaying things. Do you understand?’ Tom says, ‘Yeah,’ unenthusiastically.

The Umpire says, ‘That’s a poor performance across the board. You have delivered nothing of interest. If there’s one space on the Land Rover, in the boat, you’re not it.

The Umpire adds in confession, ‘The resistance interrogation phase doesn’t suffer fools. In fact, it identifies fools.’

Tom is brought in to see The Umpire who says, ‘Number 4, Tom, it’s with regret I’m going to inform you that your participation in this phase is over.’

The Umpire adds in confession, ‘The process is taken seriously because it’s a serious game, and in the real world, you don’t get second chances.’

He tells Tom, ‘What I’m looking for is the ability to create empathy,’ but insists Tom didn’t, as Tom adds, ‘I pushed myself probably harder than I’d ever pushed.’

‘You’re on the battlefield. This is the life-or-death scenario. You know, the fact you turned up, and the fact that you’re here, that’s a success. The percentage of Special Forces operators that get to the end of this phase is miniscule,’ The Umpire tells him.

Tom is left alone with his thoughts, cursing to himself, as the narrator says Tom Sandoval is the 10th recruit to leave selection, with just four recruits remaining and 7 hours and 52 minutes left on the clock.

Back in the holding cell, the rest of the recruits are clearly struggling, with sounds of babies crying piped into them while they’re forced into stress positions.

The Umpire says, ‘As we build through this process, we make it almost unmanageable. It’s about making sure you are physically and mentally exhausted. That’s why so few get to the end. There’s nothing pleasant about this.’

After three hours in stress positions, the negotiators are shocked when Jojo asks to speak to the Umpire, with Rudy saying he, ‘didn’t see that coming.’

Jojo paces the room and says to herself, ‘It’s not self-doubt. It’s not that I can’t do it, it’s that…’ as the Umpire walks into the room and says, ‘You’ve asked to see me? Why?’

‘I want to voluntarily withdraw,’ Jojo says, as Umpire says, ‘You want to leave? Okay then.’

Jojo says to herself, ‘I’ve never quit anything. But I do believe you have to know your limit.’

Rudy tells Erine, ‘She’s never been away from home longer than three days. This is the first time in her life.’

Foxy walks in and says, ‘What are you doing?’ Jojo answers, ‘You know, I’ve had an incredible experience here, and I’ve learned a lot about myself. And I’ve learned that I’ve put my career in front, way more than I have my personal life.’

Foxy tells her, ‘You’ve done so well,’ as Foxy takes her armband and says she should be very proud.

‘Even though I didn’t make it to the end-end, I made it well beyond what I thought I could,’ Jojo says.

The Umpire says, ‘I had her down as a strong finisher. I mean, what a performance. Gutted.’

The narrator says that 24 hours ago, the recruits were given a cover story about a, ‘conservation mission about a flightless parrot called kakapo,’ which they were to be used if they were caught, and told them to learn it.

Billy says in confession, ‘The point of the cover story is to give relevance as to why you’re in a certain location. But more importantly, it’s to buy you time. Because with time, a rescue mission could be mounted.’

This next phase of the interrogation tests how well they know their cover stories, though Tyler bothers his interrogator by flexing his muscles.

Each of them pronounce the bird’s name differently, as Billy says, ‘Any small mistake is a chink in your armor that the interrogator will exploit.’

They’re all asked about their trip here, as Erin says in confession, ‘I think I thrive a bit under pressure. Being in an individual sport, all eyes are on you when you step up to the line. I have a pretty good poker face.’

The other interrogators watching say, ‘She don’t look tired, does she?’ while Erin adds in confession, ‘Losing my mom when I was younger, I think it just had this lasting effects of, you know, kind of keeping those emotions under control and trying to be strong, I guess.’

Erin tells Erine, ‘Would it help if I provided a contact? Someone who you could call, and…?’

Erine says, ‘Well, isn’t that what I’ve been asking for? You should be able to look him up. Wait, you’re going to look up his name? You have flown out here on the word of this guy, and you’re saying to me to look his name up? Are you f***ing mad?’ as they notice, ‘She’s uncomfortable now.’ -She should say, “Right, I get it. It was stupid.”

John is interrogating Tyler, asking, ‘How do you know where to go? I didn’t see any maps.’

Tyler says, ‘Um… We’re looking in the mountains. How’d you see the mountains in the dark to know which way you’re going?’

Tyler says immediately, ‘It’s a full moon,’ as the Umpire notes he always has an air of, ‘I don’t like authority.’

Nick is being interrogated by Dilksy, who says, ‘So you’re walking through the hills at night… With no emergency communications. You’ve got no mobile phones. Can you see how stupid this looks?’

Viall says, ‘Most people think we’re stupid, but, you know…’ as Dilksy says, ‘I know you’re stupid. There’s nothing going on inside there.’

The Umpire says, ‘His demeanor is really good. He’s compliant. He’s building rapport,’ as Rudy adds, ‘It’s good.’

Nick says in confession, ‘I think I’m just going to be my normal self. Before I went on The Bachelor, I was a guy selling software in Chicago. If you’re good at sales, you’re good at solving problems. It’s important to be able to be your best self, even when the situation isn’t ideal.’

Dilksy says, ‘I can sense a little bit of confrontation,’ but Nick says, ‘You’re the last person I’d wanna be in a confrontation with.’

Billy adds, ‘The interrogators will work a ramping phase. They will use every ploy possible to break you down and show your vulnerability.’

Dilksy tells Nick, ‘At the minute, I don’t believe a word you’re saying,’ but Nick says, ‘I just really want to be helpful.’

Erine tells Erin, ‘There’s something you’re not telling me. You do not want to push me over the edge here. Okay?’

Tyler gets sand poured over his head, and is told to take this seriously and his demeanor impresses the Umpire.

Nick gets a glass of water thrown right in his face as they notice there was a ‘change’ about his demeanor.

He adds he just wants to be helpful as the Umpire is impressed and Rudy says he’s ‘worth keeping.’

Erine tries to throw water on Erin but she blocks it, which angers Erine, telling Erin to, ‘never lift a hand to me again.’

The narrator revealed that earlier in the selection Erin, ‘struggled with her fear of water,’ as she’s taken to a tank of water, and they note, ‘water is her nemesis.

She’s taken to a tank of water, as Erin says in confession, ‘Being in real fear of drowning is probably something that I’m maybe most scared of.

Erin says, ‘I’d like to speak to someone’s boss,’ as the Umpire says, ‘That’s good.’ Erin says, ‘Yes. I have something to tell you. I’ve been working with the Special Forces here in New Zealand.’

The Umpire says, ‘She did it. Hats off to her. A great performance,’ as Dilsky says, ‘Okay, I’ll talk to you later on. But thank you for your information.’

Billy says, ‘The biggest thing about interrogation is knowing when to admit defeats and tell the truth to save yours or your comrades’ life. Under duress she’s still fleet-footed enough to say, “I want to talk to your boss.”’

They say it’s over eight hours into the final phase as it’s revealed Erin will be used in a ploy to ‘break the other two recruits.’

Erine says, ‘You’ve done well. Yeah. Okay. So I want to say thank you because you’ve done what I asked, Erin. This is your reward. A lovely steak.’

Billy says, ‘The interrogators will give you comforts in front of the rest of the team to make out that you’re collaborating.’

Erine says, ‘I want you to start eating. Well done,’ while Nick and Tyler watch her eat.

Dilsky says, ‘Right, first question. Put your hand up if you go walking in the middle of the night with no communications, looking for a f***ing stupid bird?’

They both raise their hands and get a bucket of cold water dumped on them.

The narrator says, ‘The final phase of selection iis nearing its end.’

Dilksy asks if they’re both liars and they get more water dumped on their heads, as the umpire says, ‘The real dilemma for the recruit is at what point do you break cover? The reality of it is it’s the difference between life or death.’

Both Nick and Tyler aren’t sure what to do as Billy says, ‘If the recruits fail to recognize when they’re in danger and they don’t give up the cover story, then they will fail this course.’

Tyler says, ‘We’re here training. With the American and British military,’ and when asked what kind of military, he says, ‘Special forces.’

The narrator says, ‘After nearly 12 hours of extreme duress, interrogation is over. They gave the information needed to keep themselves alive.’

Billy says, ‘Getting to the end of interrogation doesn’t mean you’ve passed the course. We, as the ds, have to decide whether they are worthy of standing next to us in battle.’

They all assess the recruits, mentioning Tyler clearly doesn’t like authority but he has stepped up as of late.

They mention Erin hasn’t done well on the leadership task but they aren’t sure if she’s done enough.

As for Nick, Billy says he has kept himself in the middle of the pack, though others say he has stepped up.

Billy says, ‘In order to be one of us, you need to have courage, determination, grit,’ as all three are told to remove their hoods.

‘Who has done enough and who’s capable of passing this selection?’ Billy asks.

Billy tells them, ‘Remove your hoods. The three of you have passed the interrogation phase. Well done. However, that does not mean you’ve passed the selection.’

Rudy says, ‘We ask ourselves who of you, if any, posses what it takes to stand shoulder to shoulder with us in battle.’

Billy says, ‘Number 12, the epitome of a gray man. Often not even appeared on the radar. You’ve shown resilience. You’ve gone out of your comfort zone. We ask ourselves, would you stand by our side?’

Nick says in confessin, ‘I definitely love to win. I think a big part of life is just being resilient and not giving up. If I made it through selection, I’d feel a sense of accomplishment. You know, I think I’d be proud.’

Foxy says, ‘Recruit number 6. You’ve passed and failed tasks. You faced your fears and you panicked. But the way you dealt with that failure, that’s impressed us. You have shown us resilience, but have you got what it takes?’

Erin says in confession, ‘I find myself thinking whenever something big happens, it’s like, “Oh, I wonder what mom would think of this?” I think my mom would definitely be proud of the things I’ve achieved.’

Jovon says, ‘Recruit number 5. About midway through this program, you started to step it up. You started to demonstrate that fire we was looking for. You turned into the sled dog on all the team tasks out here. You showed us another level. So we had to ask ourselves, do you have what it takes to stand beside us?’

Tyler says in confession, ‘One consistent thing in my life is I’m always this close. I’ve always just come up just short. And I think the biggest thing I want to prove to myself here is that I can close that gap. I want to make it to the end.’

Rudy says, ‘Recruits… You’ve passed selection. Come up here on the ds,’ as they all exchange hugs and laughs.

Rudy says, ‘The precious few recruits who pass this course will have a sense of belonging. A sense of pride. It’s something that will change their lives forever.’

Rudy tells Nick, ‘Mr. Personality, you got it inside of you. Good work. Good work.’

Jovon hugs Erin and says, ‘Your mom and your family are proud of you, girl. You mom is watching you.’

Rudy says, ‘I’m so proud of them. I remember being in their boots, looking up at my instructors on the platform. It’s a bond. It’s a family. It’s something that’s so special, it can never be forgotten.’

The recruits all hug and Nick says, ‘We did it!’

Nick says, ‘Life is full of challenges. To be able to know you can step up to the plate time and time again is a very rewarding feeling. Truly something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.’

Erin says, ‘I think I’ve learned that I’m a bit tougher than I thought. Definitely mentally. It’s been a life changing experience for sure.’

Tyler says, ‘I’m just most proud of pushing myself beyond whatever I knew I could. But the biggest reflection that I learned is the man I want to be. This is a huge stepping stone and a foundation to really build my future.’

Foxy adds, ‘The recruits that have been on this course will go back to their lives and their loved ones a better person to be around. A more reliable, trustworthy individual who is understanding of their capabilities. It will be the best thing they’ve ever experienced. They will miss it,’ as the season comes to an end.
