A Labour MP has declared the assisted dying Bill is ‘not safe’ ahead of a crunch vote in the Commons this afternoon.
Naz Shah questioned what the margin of error is ‘when it comes to something as serious as death’ after tabling an amendment that prevents people from qualifying for an assisted death ‘solely as a result of voluntarily stopping eating or drinking’.
The Bradford West MP was among those who spoke in the debate preceding the vote which could see the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill either clear the House of Commons and move to the Lords, or fall completely.
Meanwhile. police have been forced to intervene between rival assisted dying campaigners outside Parliament as crowds gather ahead of the vote.
