A mother has created a clever ‘parenting hack’ to help ensure her child’s safety during a school trip.

Naturally, parents might feel a heightened sense of nervousness when their child is out in public without them. However, Shaylin Martin, from Florida, has devised a smart hack to avoid just that.

Taking to TikTok, the mother revealed how she managed to keep track of her child’s location throughout the day using an Apple AirTag.

In the video, Shaylin securely hid the device in her child’s ponytail, meaning it was always close to her daughter who is unlikely to lose it.

For Shaylin, the AirTag gave her ‘peace of mind’. Now, social media users have taken to the comment section to share their thoughts, and while many believe it to be a ‘great’ idea, others have noticed a generational shift.

AirTags are a simple way of keeping track of one’s belongings. Often associated with keys and handbags, the device makes an item trackable via Apple’s Find My app.

But Shaylin innovated the use of the AirTag, and instead implemented it on her young child.

The mother showed viewers a step-by-step guide on how she disguised the device in her daughter’s hair, alongside the writing: ‘When your baby goes on her first field trip.’

First, she took the Apple device, which was strapped into a band, and tied it around her daughter’s ponytail like a bobble.

Next, Shaylin wrapped her daughter’s hair around the ponytail to form a bun, which effectively covered any evidence of the device.

To complete the look, Shaylin added a blue bow to her daughter’s hair.

She wrote in the caption: ‘Parent Hack! I was able to track my baby to and from her field trip today and it gave me so much peace of mind!’

The clip has since garnered over 18 million views, with social media users highly rating the creative idea.
