A Channel 5 history documentary has been pulled at the last minute after one of the show’s contributors was exposed as a racist and ‘hardline Nazi’.

The Year the Thames Flooded, which was due to air last night, was set to delve into the devastation caused in London in 1928 when the river burst its banks.

Nikki Shaw, who has penned self-published books about Victorian murder victims and Georgian London, was set to feature in the programme.

But an investigation revealed that she posted several racist posts on her Facebook account and had pictured herself licking a lollipop emblazoned with a swastika.

She was also seen performing a Nazi salute.

In one of her posts, many of which are too extreme to repeat, Shaw called on singer Sam Smith to be murdered. In another, she called someone a ‘black c***’.

Campaign group Hope Not Hate, which exposed Shaw, claimed that she mixes with members of neo-Nazi group Combat 18.

She posted on Facebook under both her own name and allegedly the pseudonym Bunty McBint. Her account has since been deactivated.

Shaw’s Facebook page was ‘riddled’ with ‘vile racism and dehumanising language’, Hope Not Hate said.

Other posts denounce ‘race-mixers’ and ‘c****’.

Posting above a picture of Sam Smith, she wrote: ‘How comes no one has thought of euthanising these n**** c***s through a gas out in their tour busses while they sleep?’

Another post read: ‘Hate it when whites talk like m*****s on the train ffs’.

She also declared: ‘I’m a racial nationalist coz that’s what I believe so I won’t defend race mixing no matter who done it.’

A post by a friend of hers boasted about her appearance on the documentary. It read: ‘One to check out on Sunday 26th November on C5 bit of good ole English history with our very own Bunty Mcbint making her screen debut for her love of history.’

A Hope Not Hate spokesman told : ‘Given how brazen Nikki Shaw’s racism and Nazi sympathies are, it’s concerning that Channel 5 didn’t spot it.’

A Channel 5 spokesperson said: ‘ We will not be airing the film this evening whilst producers look into this further.’
