A toddler has been airlifted to hospital after a dog mauled her face at a home in Queensland.

Paramedics were called to a private property in Dysart, south of Mackay, just after 10.30am on Tuesday.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the young girl, who has not been identified, had ‘significant lacerations’ to her face.

She was taken to Dysart Hospital in a stable condition before being airlifted to Townsville University Hospital.

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed the patient remained stable.

Isaac Regional Council launched an investigation into the dog attack, with council officers in attendance at the scene.

‘Council takes these matters seriously,’ the council said in a statement to Daily Mail .

‘As part of the investigation, the animal involved will be seized and held in Council’s care pending the outcome of our inquiries.

‘Council extends its thoughts to those affected.’

The council issued a severe warning for all dog owners about their responsibility to ensure animals are properly contained

They must also ensure the animal does not pose a risk to the community including to themselves and their children.
