Dakota Johnson and Halle Berry suffered a fashion blunder on Sunday night, as they wore near identical gowns to the Kering Women In Motion Awards during the 78th Cannes Film Festival.

While both actresses looked nothing short of sensational in their respective looks, their glittering halterneck gowns were strikingly similar in style.

Dakota’s semi-sheer number showcased ever inch of her slender frame, as the see-through material allowed a glimpse of her long legs underneath and nude bodysuit.

The Fifty Shades of Grey star, 35, opted to add even more sparkle to her sequinned look with a pair of huge statement earrings encrusted with diamonds.

While Halle’s gown boasted extra sex appeal as it featured a daring backless design and was covered in an intricate beaded and bejewelled pattern, rather than sequins.

The Oscar winner, 58, opted to style her dress with chandelier earrings and towering platform high heels to boost her height.

Despite their accidental twinning, Dakota and Halle didn’t seem to have any awkward run-ins during the awards or Presidential Dinner.

Dakota was instead seen mingling with singer Charli XCX, who dazzled in a sheer purple dress with a feathered train, and Irish actor Paul Mescal.

She is at the prestigious film festival for the first time to premiere her dark comedy Splitsville, in which she both starred and produced through her production company TeaTime Pictures.

On Monday, she attended a Kering Women in Motion Talk with her producing partner and good friend Ro Donnelly, looking effortlessly chic in a white semi-sheer blouse, tailored trousers and leather loafers.

Discussing why she had launched TeaTime Pictures six years ago to Variety during the talk, Dakota explained: ‘So much of why I wanted to start a production company and make my own movies is because I want more from this industry.

‘I want more from my experience as an artist. I felt so thirsty for more conversation and more creativity and more collaboration.

‘I found myself as an actor, a few times, showing up to the premiere of a movie to see it the first time and saying, “Woah. That is not what I thought we were making.” That is such a weird thing to do.’

She revealed that her and Ro have a strict ‘no a**hole policy’ at the company, saying: ‘I love every person that works on the set. And the way that we build our sets is really vibe-based, really energy-based.’

However, Dakota admitted that it hasn’t been plain sailing for the duo and slammed studio bosses for not wanting to make anything ‘different, risky, scary or messy’.

She said: ‘It’s been very challenging to get people to take us seriously. That was very sad and very lame. I think I have glamorized this industry my whole life and have thought it’s pure magic. To see behind the curtain in that way was just s****y. It was hard.’

She added: ‘Some professionals who run studios don’t feel the desire to make things that are different or risky or scary or dangerous or raw and real and human and messy.

‘That’s also really hard. As an actor, that is what I am craving. As an audience member, that is what I’m craving. It’s a constant fight. But we are fighters. We hustle. We really work so hard to tell the stories that we love.’

The Madame Web star’s appearance in Cannes comes just days after she appeared on the cover of this month’s issue of Elle magazine.

Speaking to the publication last week, she opened up about her past love life and experience of dating.

Surprisingly, Dakota revealed she had ‘never dated anyone’, despite several relationships – including her current romance with Coldplay‘s Chris Martin.

The Daddio star has also publicly previously dated Welsh musician Matthew Hitt, actor Jordan Masterson, and singer Noah Gersh.

The screen star explained that her lack of experience dating or using dating apps was one of the reason she wanted to appear in her upcoming film Materialists, written and directed by Celine Song.

She said: ‘I wanted to do our movie because I really wanted to work with Celine. I loved Past Lives. I loved meeting her even more. I loved the way she spoke about movies and people and feelings.’

‘I also loved that Celine used to be a matchmaker in real life. I find the whole concept of the film so interesting, because it’s so foreign to me.

‘I’ve never dated anybody. I’ve had boyfriends, but I have never been on a dating app. I just don’t know that world. So, it was so interesting and intriguing. It’s the most beautiful side of humanity, but it can also be the most ugly. Loving someone is the most scary and beautiful thing you can do.’

During the interview, Dakota, who is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, was asked about how she started out in the acting industry.

Reflecting on the period, she said: ‘I graduated and only applied to Juilliard. And I didn’t get in. That f**king process was so awful and terrifying.

‘When you get accepted for an audition, it’s a two-day long chorus-line thing. You’re supposed to get called back for a second audition, and I didn’t. It was fine, I really didn’t want to go to college.’

She admitted she ‘really didn’t want to go to college’ anyway but was dismayed at the idea of being ‘cut off’ by father Don, 75, and insisted ‘it was hard to make money.’

Dakota said that things were tight for her at times, but she was lucky to have financial support from her famous parents, who are both also actors.

‘For a couple of years it was hard to make money. There were a few times when I’d go to the market and not have money in my bank account or not be able to pay rent, and I’d have to ask my parents for help – I’m very grateful that I had parents that could help me and did help me.

‘But it certainly was not fun. The auditioning process, as you know, is the f**king worst.’
