After months of swirling speculation, a bombshell legal letter this week finally shed light on the explosive threats that shattered Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s longtime friendship.
The court letter, submitted on Wednesday by Justin Baldoni’s legal team in his ongoing battle with his It Ends With Us co-star Lively, 37, revealed the actress allegedly tried to coerce Swift, 35, into publicly siding with her by threatening to leak years’ worth of private text messages.
The stunning revelation gave credence to long-whispered rumors of tensions between the two women and seemed to explain why their decade-long close friendship appears to have gone cold.
In yet another surprise twist on Thursday, however, the judge presiding over the case ordered the letter to be struck from the record, ruling it ‘improper’ and ‘irrelevant’.
It came hours after Baldoni’s lead attorney, Bryan Freedman, had doubled down by also submitting his sworn affidavit that said a source ‘very close’ to Swift had contacted him in February to reveal that Lively’s attorney had made such threats to the singer’s representative.
The judge’s ruling may come as a small legal victory to both Swift and Lively in the courtroom, but in the public eye it’s only left behind an even more tantalizing question: What was in those private texts that Swift was desperate to keep hidden?

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s friendship is reportedly ‘in the deep freeze’ after explosive legal claims emerged this week

Blake Lively allegedly threatened bestie Taylor Swift with the release of embarrassing text messages if she failed to release a public statement in support of her, the Daily Mail can exclusively reveal

Baldoni’s legal team essentially confirmed rumors of the fallout by revealing claims of Lively’s alleged threat to Swift in a legal letter this week
Did the pop superstar confide in Lively about her private yet high-profile relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce, from the earliest sparks to their bedroom secrets?
Or did she share raw details about the breakup with her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn, or her brief romance with British rocker Matty Healy?
The answer to those questions, the Daily Mail understands, is yes – that intimate revelations about Swift’s private life are contained in the trove of texts.
For her part, Swift is already fighting back after she was dramatically subpoenaed last week by Baldoni’s legal team. In a statement, her publicist insisted, ‘Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film. She did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release.’
Be that as it may, according to the letter exclusively revealed by the Daily Mail this week, Lively’s team had pressured Swift to make a statement in support of the actress or face seeing private messages splashed across headlines.
When Lively and Swift first met, the singer was in the throes of a relationship with British DJ Calvin Harris, 41, that ran from February 2015 to May 2016, ending with recriminations over alleged cheating on her part.

Swift’s current romance with NFL star Travis Kelce may be among the private details hidden in those texts

It’s also possible details of Swift’s six-year relationship with ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn could feature heavily in her private conversations with Lively

Next came upper-crust English actor Tom Hiddleston, who started dating Swift the same month she broke up with Harris.
That fling, which fizzled out after a few months, infamously saw him photographed wearing an ‘I HEART TS’ vest during an Independence Day beach trip to Rhode Island that resulted in widespread ridicule.
An insider told the Daily Mail at the time that Swift had become ‘uncomfortable’ over Hiddleston’s desire to be ‘so public’ with their romance.
‘Tom’s need for their relationship to be so public, so quickly, makes her uncomfortable,’ The source added. ‘She tried to be OK with it in the beginning but fears he is in love with the idea of her and not falling in love with her for the right reasons.’
It wasn’t long before Swift returned to the dating game, and with another English actor, no less. This time, it was Joe Alwyn, 34.
The singer’s longest relationship so far, the transatlantic romance saw Swift spend an increasing amount of time in London and devote the hit 2022 album ‘Midnights’ to her man.

Swift’s friendship with Lively began when she was in the throes of a relationship with British DJ Calvin Harris that ran from February 2015 to May 2016

After her relationship with Calvin Harris ended she moved on almost immediately with actor Tom Hiddleston, whose infamous ‘I heart TS’ tank top became a tabloid punchline

Until recently, Lively has been front and center – famously showing up in Las Vegas to see the Chiefs take Super Bowl LVIII from a box in the Allegiant Stadium alongside Swift in 2024
But by April the following year, the six-year romance had fallen apart with sources saying ‘the relationship had just run its course’.
A brief rebound fling with scruffy British rocker – and recovering heroin addict – Matty Healy, 36, ensued but fizzled after just a month.
Though the brevity of that relationship wasn’t enough to stop Swift from getting musical material out of it – Healy is widely thought to be the inspiration for her blockbuster 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department.
Now dating Kelce, 35, Swift’s love life is more high profile than ever thanks to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s larger-than-life antics and devoted legion of fans.

Until recently, Lively has also been front and center – memorably joining Swift in Las Vegas in February last year to watch the Chiefs win the Super Bowl from a star-studded box.
At the time, Swift and Lively appeared closer than ever.
Swift is godmother to Lively’s three daughters, and the pair each own nearby homes in Manhattan’s trendy Tribeca neighborhood.
But within 12 months, and with the Baldoni case making headlines, Lively was nowhere to be seen when the Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles at this year’s Super Bowl.
And with Swift and Kelce intent on maintaining a lower profile than before, the songstress was reportedly left furious when it emerged that Lively had allegedly compared herself to Game of Thrones character Khaleesi and to the singer as one of her ‘dragons’ in a now notorious text exchange with Baldoni.
One thing’s for certain, the relationship these two women had – texts whizzing back and forth, sharing confidences and the ups and downs of life in the spotlight for over a decade – is now firmly consigned to the past.
