A young equestrian was left fighting for her life after she was kicked in the head by a horse.
Lily Biscan sustained severe head trauma from the powerful blow on Wednesday.
The assistant trainer lost hearing in one of her ears and will need to learn to walk all over again.
Biscan was working at DC Stables in Blue Ridge, Georgia when the animal kicked her in the head.
She suffered severe concussion, a compressed skull fracture and busted ear drum, according to a GoFundMe page.
Her colleagues described how they frantically tried to keep her conscious while they waited for an ambulance to arrive.
She was airlifted to airlifted to Erlanger Trauma Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she still remains.
‘Lily’s road to recovery is long but very promising,’ Suzi Zarin, whose husband Darrell Cruse owns the stables wrote. ‘She is relearning to walk and use her moving skills.’
On Sunday, Biscan was moved from the ICU in what loved ones hope will be the first steps on her healing journey.
‘The doctors changed her pain meds which has greatly helped and when it is under control she is able to rest better,’ Zarin added.
She described Biscan, as a ‘ray of light, young lady, horse and animal lover, hard worker.’
‘With each positive step and progress Lily is making, it easier to keep focusing on moving “Forward” in her recovery,’ Zarin said.
Around 4,567 riders end up in hospital for horse-related injuries each year, according to the Brain Injury Association of Missouri.
Horse kicks can be twice as powerful as a heavyweight boxers and strong enough to break bones or dent metal.
