He’s cut, coloured and coiffed the hair of a long list of A-listers including Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande and Sofia Vergara, so when Chris Appleton talks, we listen.
The celebrity hairstylist has posted a video on TikTok in which he shared the most flattering hairstyles for your face shape.
‘I’m going to stop you from ever having a bad hair day again,’ he announced.
So scroll down to see which haircut suits you best.
Oval

With prominent cheekbones, a rounded jawline and a forehead that is slightly wider than the chin, an oval face suits most hairstyles.
‘If you have the oval face, then you’ve won the lottery,’ says Appleton. ‘The best look is a sleek, middle-part or beachy-wave style.
‘My top tip is to play with layers and volume because, honestly, your face can take it.
Round

With full cheeks, a rounded jawline and a rounded hairline, a round face is almost as wide as it is long.
‘The key is to add some length,’ explains Appleton. ‘So, long layers, curtain bangs and high up-dos. My top tip is to go for height and length to elongate the face.’
Square

If you have a square face, your face is nearly as wide as it is long. Your forehead and cheekbones are the same width as your jawline, which is defined and angular. ‘It’s all about softening the jawline,’ says Appleton.
‘Soft waves work really well, side parts, and the best look for me is shoulder-length cuts. You want to avoid blunt cuts, especially at the jaw, because you want to go for more movement to take away the squareness of the face.’
Heart

If your face tapers down from a wide forehead (sometimes with a widow’s peak hairline) to a narrow, pointed chin, you have a heart-shaped face.
‘It’s all about balancing the forehead,’ explains Appleton. ‘You want to go for more of a side-swept curtain bang or a chin-length bob.
‘My top tip is to draw attention to the downward part of your face and add volume at the jaw.
Rectangle

Sometimes called oblong, a rectangular face is longer than it is wide. Your forehead, cheeks and jawline are the same width.
‘The key is to add some width,’ reveals Appleton. ‘What works really well to do that is full bangs, curls, because they add volume, or layered shoulder haircuts that create movement. You want to avoid too much length and go for volume at the sides.’
