More than a dozen Just Stop Oil protesters were arrested ‘within seconds’ of marking at Trafalgar Square, the organisation announced.

The controversial protest group attempted to block the road at lunchtime today when Metropolitan Police officers swooped to remove the protestors from the road.

Scotland Yard confirmed 14 people were arrested within ‘two minutes’ for slow marching on the road.

The nine JSO activists who were arrested yesterday have all been charged.

According to a JSO spokesperson: ‘At around 12:30 pm today, a group of approximately 14 people began marching from Trafalgar Square in support of Just Stop Oil’s demand. In much the same situation as yesterday, all 14 were arrested within 30 seconds of stepping on the road.’

Greg Sculthorpe, 37, an accountant from Doncaster who was on today’s demonstration said: ‘Yesterday nine people were arrested for marching for 30 seconds. If charged under the Public Order Act, they risk a year in prison. This is legislation that was written with the aid of an oil company funded think-tank. Do these seem like the actions of a liberal democracy or tin-pot dictatorship?’

JSO said they will continue their demonstrations despite the threat posed by the police.

Maths graduate Callum Goode, 24, said: ‘I know what I’m risking – that I’ll likely be sent to prison for continuing to peacefully march. But that risk is nothing compared to what is to come if this government continues to issue new fossil fuel licences. I can’t continue on as normal in this emergency. If I refuse to act in nonviolent resistance, I am complicit in this government’s acts of oblique genocide.’

According to JSO, there have been more than 600 of their activists arrested since October 30.
