Rosamund Pike was only 22 when she was cast opposite then 48-year-old Pierce Brosnan as Bond Girl Miranda Frost in her big-screen debut Die Another Day – just five days before principal photography began in January 2002.
The British 46-year-old performed her first onscreen sex scene when her MI6 double agent seduced James Bond at an Iceland palace where they had a love-making session inside an epic swan-shaped bed.
‘I discovered things like nipple covers, and all the taping,’ Rosamund recalled on David Tennant’s podcast Monday.
‘We have this clinch, and then we separate, and I look at this body tape and the nipple covers and they’re covered in hair. And I think, “Oh my God, I’m waxing Pierce’s chest!” I was so mortified! I thought, “Oh my God, he’s so brave, and I’m pulling off his chest hair with every embrace.”‘
The awkward on-set moment wasn’t as bad as Pike first imagined though as ‘it took a couple of takes to realize it was not him. It was the fake fur of the rugs adorning the swan bed. I literally thought I was waxing the poor man’s chest!’
The Emmy winner called Die Another Day ‘a magic carpet of an experience’ as her first scene was opposite Dame Judi Dench, she got to sword fight Halle Berry, and even flirted with Madonna in her cameo during a fencing scene.

But back in 2018, Rosamund told Audible Session that she was instructed to ‘drop my dress and appear in my underwear’ for the audition, which she refused but still got the job after posing in a ‘shimmering sheath.’
Lee Tamahori’s $142M-budget 007 flick – which marked Pierce’s final film as Bond – was not well received by audiences nor critics, but it still managed to amass $432M at the global box office.

The 3 Body Problem executive producer will also star as a British High Court judge in the world premiere of Suzie Miller’s new play Inter Alia, directed by Justin Martin, which opens this summer at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton Theatre in London.
Rosamund’s other upcoming roles include two Guy Ritchie films – In the Grey and Wife & Dog – as well as Netflix comedy Ladies First, Netflix series Thumblite, and Babak Anvari’s thriller Hallow Road.
