A gang of teenage boys are set to appear in court charged with raping a woman in a churchyard alleyway.

The boys, two aged 15 and two aged 17, are accused of carrying out the sex attack on December 28, 2023.

The boys’ first hearing at Nottingham Magistrates Court took place last week with the teenagers – who have been on bail since the alleged attack – being accompanied by their parents.

The alleged attack on the woman, who was 16 or over, took place in an alleyway off St Mary’s Memorial Gardens in Newark at around 7.45pm.

At the time two of the accused teens were 14 years old, while the other two were 16.

One boy, now 17 is charged with one count of rape.

The other 17-year-old is also charged with oral rape, rape and attempted anal rape.

Another boy aged 15 is charged with one count of oral rape.

The final boy also 15 is charged with rape and oral rape of the woman.

The gang, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will next appear at the same court on April 2 and have been allowed to remain under strict bail conditions.

These include an overnight curfew as well as restrictions on who they can have contact with.

One of the 17-year-olds also faces another charge of raping a woman in a separate offence in the town on February 18 2023.

The court hearing comes just months after a different alleged incident involving different teenage boys also took place in Newark.

The eight teenage boys – between the ages of 12 and 16 – were arrested in June last year on suspicion of raping a teenager girl on playing fields on Yorke Drive.

Two of the gang were aged 12 and 13 at the time of the alleged attack. Another two were 14, two were 15 and two were 16 at the time of the alleged incident.

Four of the boys were released on bail with strict conditions while the other four remained on conditional bail.
