alert-–-fear-the-walking-dead:-a-long-thought-dead-character-makes-a-shocking-return-as-the-amc-zombie-series-comes-to-an-explosive-closeAlert – Fear the Walking Dead: A long-thought-dead character makes a shocking return as the AMC zombie series comes to an explosive close

Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) makes quite the shocking return after she was thought to be dead for the entire final season in Fear the Walking Dead in the series finale.

The two-hour-18-minute finale featured a number of shocking moments including a bizarre twist/red herring about Troy’s daughter Tracy that ultimately proved to be not true.

Alicia finally got to reunite with her mother Madison (Kim Dickens), who gets to exact her revenge on Troy, the man she thought killed her daughter.

The episode begins with a boom box being turned on and Mountain’s 1970 hit Mississippi Queen playing while a field is being set on fire.

Troy (Daniel Sharman) and his crew turn on a set of flood lights on their truck, which they use to herd a huge horde of zombies.

Troy asks Russell how he’s doing on a walkie talkie and he says they’re in formation and says he’ll see him at the rendezvous.

Troy is driving the truck with Tracy (Antonella Rose) in the passenger seat, asking how they’re gonna get all the zombies to Padre.

‘It’s all right, we’ve got it covered, but Tracy isn’t convinced, adding, ‘It’s an island. We can’t just walk them to the Gates.’

‘Who said anything about walking? Russell came through. Figured out the perfect way to get them there. You just wait till we catch up with him,’ Troy says.

Tracy asks, ‘And then?’ Troy responds, ‘And then we’ll finally have a home.’

Tracy notices that her mother has, ‘pulled loose’ from her restraints, adding they need to ‘tighten the ropes’ but Troy says, ‘Oh, she’s fine. She’s not gonna hurt us.’

Troy adds, ‘You know, when we get to Padre, she’s gonna be the one to make Madison pay for everything she’s done.

Tracy asks, ‘Why does Mom have to kill Madison?’ Troy responds, ‘Well, you know why. She’s Alicia’s mother. She put the thinking in her head that got people killed. We can’t let what happened to Mom happen to anyone else.’

Tracy says, ‘I know all that,’ but Troy asks, ‘So, what’s wrong?’

He shows Troy a necklace and she says, ‘Victor said it belonged to Alicia. She killed Mom. Why would you want me to wear her necklace?

‘She gave it to me when she died. And she made me promise that I would give it to you to keep you safe. Which is what I’ve been doing ever since,’ Troy says.

All of the sudden, they hear something snap as a massive log slams into the truck, causing it to flip off the road.

Tracy is seen trying to wake her father up, and when he finally comes to she says he’s been, ‘out for hours.’

Tracy says she thinks they ran over some kind of trap but he’s pinned to his seat and she says she doesn’t know where the gun is.

She says they have to meet with the others but he can’t pull the huge wooden stick out of his shoulder.

He tells her she has to leave, as zombies get closer, though she doesn’t want to leave him, and when she says why, he says, ‘Cause this is everything we’ve fought for. And if you don’t make it to padre, then all of this, everything that I’ve done, it won’t mean anything.’

‘I don’t want to live in that place if I can’t live in it with you. I’m going to find help,’ Tracy insists, handing him her necklace, ‘to keep you safe.

She insists she’ll come back for him and adds, ‘And then we’ll do what we said. We’ll — We’ll make padre our home. Together,’ as she takes off before the title screen plays.

The episode cuts to Madison (Kim Dickens) walking alone when her walkie talkie crackles, with Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) on the other end.

‘Madison, do you copy?’ he asks, adding, Madison, answer me. Please. Tell me where you are.’

She responds, ‘I can’t do it, Victor,’ and when he asks, ‘Why not?’ she says, ‘Cause if I do, you’ll try and stop me.’

‘There was a time you’d have thanked me for such a thing,’ she adds, as she says, ‘Enough people have died because of me. I can’t put the rest of you at risk.’

Victor says, ‘The rest is not that many, Madison. It’s just me and our newly found friends of Alicia here. The rest retreated to the island to escape the herd.’

She adds, ‘All of you should do the same,’ but Victor says, ‘I can’t let you do this alone.’

Can't: She responds, ¿I can't do it, Victor,¿ and when he asks, ¿Why not?¿ she says, 'Cause if I do, you'll try and stop me'

Can’t: She responds, ‘I can’t do it, Victor,’ and when he asks, ‘Why not?’ she says, ‘Cause if I do, you’ll try and stop me’

‘I’m in a tank loaded with ammo and guns. I don’t need anybody else,’ Madison says as Victor says, ‘Madison, please.’

‘It’s like I told you before, Victor — Unlike you, I don’t have anyone left to disappoint. I need to do this so you don’t have to. Then you can build padre into what Alicia would have wanted,’ she says, as Victor says, ‘This won’t end well, Madison. You think it’ll just be this one thing. But then you’ll realize you can’t stop. I learned it the hard way. At the Tower. There was just always one more thing that I needed to do to keep it safe, and before I knew it, I was the thing people needed to be protected from.’

Madison gets back to her truck and finds Tracy in the truck, telling her that Troy crashed his truck, but Madison doesn’t believe him.

She insists he’s, ‘gonna die if he doesn’t get help,’ as she adds, ‘I thought I could use your radio. Maybe somebody might hear me.’

Madison asks where the truck is and she finally says it’s about a mile east of here, as Madison proceeds to tie Tracy to the truck before she contacts Victor on the walkie.

’Change of plans, Victor. I’m leaving you the MRAP. Tracy’s inside, but she won’t be a problem. I’ll send you the coordinates,’ Madison says.

When Strand asks, ‘Where are you going?’ Madison says coldly ‘To kill Troy,’ which naturally upsets Tracy.

‘No. No! What happened to no one’s gone until they’re gone? I heard you outside. You — You told Victor you want him to build padre into what Alicia wanted,’ Tracy says.

What happened: ¿No. No! What happened to no one's gone until they're gone? I heard you outside. You -- You told Victor you want him to build padre into what Alicia wanted,¿ Tracy says

What happened: ‘No. No! What happened to no one’s gone until they’re gone? I heard you outside. You — You told Victor you want him to build padre into what Alicia wanted,’ Tracy says

Madison says she does as Tracy says if she really did, she would give her father a second chance, but Madison insists, ‘He doesn’t deserve one.’

‘I thought everyone did. Isn’t that what Alicia believed? If you believed it, you’d help my dad,’ Tracy says, as Madison adds, ‘The way he helped her?’

Russell is leading the convoy of walkers, before calling Troy on the walkie, saying he’s, ‘picking up your stragglers. Where the hell are you?’

‘I’m in the same place you left me. And from the looks of it, I don’t think I’m going anywhere. Russell, will you promise me something? You know, whatever happens, I want you to find Tracy, and I want you to make sure she gets there. I want you to promise me,’ Troy says.

Russell says, ‘I promise. She’ll finally have a home. We all will. We’re gonna take that island,’ as suddenly the zombies around Troy are being killed as it’s revealed to be from Madison, who says over the walkie, ‘No, they won’t. And neither will you, Troy.’

A struggle ensues but Madison drives the stake deeper into Troy’s soldier and gets away from him, using her knife to kill Troy’s beloved zombified wife, which upsets him.

‘No! No. No. You had no right! You had no right! She was supposed to kill you,’ Troy says but Madison insists, ‘I’ll bury you next to her.’

Troy asks, ‘You really think killing me is gonna help you build that island?’ She says, ‘I know it will. You killed my daughter. I’ll do what I have to do to make sure her memory doesn’t die.’

Killing: Troy asks, ‘You really think killing me is gonna help you build that island?’ She says, ‘I know it will. You killed my daughter. I’ll do what I have to do to make sure her memory doesn’t die

Troy says, ‘You want your people to believe the same thing that she did. When that’s exactly the thing that got her killed.’

Madison insists, ‘It can still work,’ but Troy asks, ‘How?’ She says, ‘If people like you and me are no longer in this world,’ as she gets ready to kill Troy with a sledge hammer but he stops her.

‘You can’t kill me. You can’t. You want to stop that herd? I’m the only person who knows where Russell’s leading it,’ he says.

Madison insists, ‘My people will figure it out,’ but Troy says, ‘No, they won’t. Not in time.

He says he’ll tell her how to stop the herd but only if he takes her to see his daughter so he can tell her something important.

Back at Madison’s vehicle, Tracy is watching a video of Alicia, when Victor Strand arrives with his team.

He tells her, ‘In exchange for safe deliverance to you, Troy has agreed to tell us where the herd is heading.’

Tracy says, ‘You’re lying,’ but Victor says, ‘I’m not. Whether your father is remains to be seen.’

Lying: Tracy says, ‘You’re lying,’ but Victor says, ‘I’m not. Whether your father is remains to be seen’

Tracy says, ‘Taking padre is everything to him. Why would he give that up?’ but Victor says, ‘I suppose we’ll find out.’

Tracy says, ‘She’s gonna kill him. As soon as he gives her what she wants,’ while one of Victor’s team says, ‘Why would you say that?’

‘Because she told me. She said he didn’t deserve a second chance,’ but another says, ‘How many of those tapes have you watched? Because the more you watch, the more you’ll see Madison gave a lot of people second chances. Whether they deserved them or not.

Victor says, ‘Madison never gave up on me. Neither did Alicia.’

Madison is watching Troy bury his wife and says his wife is dead because of Madison’s daughter Alicia.

‘Well, Serena was pregnant. We were still looking for a place to live since Mexico, and… …Then she got bit,’ Troy says.

Madison says, ‘Are you gonna tell me that was Alicia’s fault?’ Troy says, ‘Nope. Alicia’s the one that saved her. We put a sos on the radio. She was the last person we ever thought would respond. But she did. Serena was bit on the arm just like Alicia, so… she knew where to cut.’

He adds, ‘When Serena was out of the woods, she just, uh, got back in the MRAP and helped more people,’ as Madison says, ‘Yeah, I’m having a hard time seeing how this led to you killing her.’

Fault: Madison says, ¿Are you gonna tell me that was Alicia's fault?¿ Troy says, ¿Nope. Alicia's the one that saved her. We put a sos on the radio. She was the last person we ever thought would respond. But she did. Serena was bit on the arm just like Alicia, so... she knew where to cut'

‘Yeah. Well, Serena changed after that. Alicia changed her. She wanted to be just like her. She tried to help as many people as she could. And then one day, she got a call. An sos on the radio. Some guy said he needed help. When Serena showed up… He shot her. He shot her, he robbed her, took everything she owned… and then just left her for dead. Now, I went looking for her, and I found her holed up in a strip mall. Oh, it was too late to save her by then. She’d, uh — I don’t know. She’d lost too much blood. And I held her while she died, Madison. I listened to her weep. She told me she’d never get to watch her daughter grow up. Because she allowed herself to get wrapped up in Alicia’s bullshit,’ Troy says.

He adds, ‘I promised I’d never let Tracy hurt the way her mom did. I’d never let my daughter believe the same bulls**t that Alicia put in Serena’s head. And that’s why you killed Alicia.’

When a walker gets too close, Troy hits Madison in the head with his shovel before taking off running, but he falls into a zombie trap.

Madison looks down on him with a smile and says, ‘Today just isn’t your day, Troy,’ when Crane (Ben Krennick) arrives and says, ‘Yours either. Hello, Lark,’ before hitting her in the head and knocking her out.

Crane tells Troy and Madison from a boat, ‘Welcome back. How do you like my new digs, huh? Doesn’t quite measure up to what we had at padre, but it came in handy when we needed to get supplies from the cargo ship. Until we ran out of gas.’

Troy says, ‘Who the hell are you? What do you know about padre? [Chuckles] I ampadre. Or I was. Belonged to me and my sister. Till Lark got her killed.’

Madison insists, ‘Shrike got herself killed,’ but Crane adds, ‘Would’ve done the same thing to me, but Blue Jay spared me.’

Madison asks, ‘What do you want from us, Crane?’ He says, ‘Padre is my home. I built it. Oh. I’ve been looking for a way to get it back. And today I found it. I heard your conversation on the radio. I’m prepared to give you what you want.’

Troy: He adds, ¿I promised I'd never let Tracy hurt the way her mom did. I'd never let my daughter believe the same bulls**t that Alicia put in Serena's head. And that's why you killed Alicia'

Troy: He adds, ‘I promised I’d never let Tracy hurt the way her mom did. I’d never let my daughter believe the same bulls**t that Alicia put in Serena’s head. And that’s why you killed Alicia’

Troy asks what the catch is and Crane says, ‘Well, you can start by telling your friends to call off their dogs.’

He says, ‘Why would I do that?’ Crane says, ‘Because once I’ve taken padre back, I will let you and your daughter live there.’

Madison says, ‘He’s lying,’ but Crane says, ‘He’s got more of a chance with me than you, Lark.’

Madison says, ‘You think after everything you’ve done, we’re just gonna roll over and give you the keys?’

Crane says, ‘You won’t, but he might. So, what do you say? Do we have a deal?’

Crane holds out the walkie talkie as Madison says, ‘Strand, we’re on a barge by the docks. Crane’s got us’ before Crane hits her.

Crane says, ‘Change of plans. You can tell your friends to call off their army in person. You’re gonna take us to the herd. And if you try anything en route, I will kill you both.’

They all get in a truck when they’re intercepted by Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) and Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) who get Madison and Troy to safety as Crane and his crew fight off a herd of zombies.

Herd: They all get in a truck when they¿re intercepted by Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) and Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) who get Madison and Troy to safety as Crane and his crew fight off a herd of zombies

Herd: They all get in a truck when they’re intercepted by Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) and Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) who get Madison and Troy to safety as Crane and his crew fight off a herd of zombies

When they’re safe, Daniel says he wants to kill Troy for everything he’s done but Madison says they can’t because he’s the only one who knows where the herd is.

They agree to keep him alive until the herd is found but Madison says she will make sure he doesn’t hurt anyone else after the herd is found.

Madison is walking with Troy, who says he was taking Crane in the wrong direction, when Crane finds them.

They have to cross a creaking wooden bridge over a swamp full of zombies but Crane cuts the cord as they fall into the swamp.

Crane says, ‘Don’t be impatient. They’ll get to you soon. Or that mud will suck you down first.’

Madison says, ‘Pull us out, Crane,’ while Troy says, ‘I can still lead you to the herd. I thought your deal was with me.

Crane says, ‘I thought I needed padre back to make up for what happened to my sister. I was wrong. After what you did to her, this is exactly what you deserve. She let Shrike get bit. Over and over. Her and Nightingale. Just stood and let it happen. I just want to get to my daughter. See? This is exactly why Shrike and I were right. People need to be protected from themselves. Especially when it comes to their kids. Oh, you’re full of shit. Why do you think we saved you from that stadium? Hmm? Me and Shrike — Yeah, we, uh, heard you on the radio. That speech you made to your kids. Uh… Both: No one’s gone until they’re gone. Inspiring stuff. And then, when we found you in that water truck… Gasping for air, surrounded by Carrion… [Gasping] …We didn’t hesitate to pull you out. You know why? Because if you were willing to die for them, we knew we could get you to do just about anything. You thought that those beliefs were gonna save your kids… But in the end, that’s what got them killed.’

Madison yells for zombies to come come over as they attack Crane and bite him while Troy tells her, ‘The northwest corner of the swamp. That’s where Russell’s leading the dead. He’s hoping the current will sweep them to the island’s shore.’

Madison says, ‘Why are you telling me that?’ Troy says, ‘Cause maybe I don’t deserve a second chance… but Tracy does.’

Madison says, ‘It doesn’t matter. They’re not gonna find us in time,’ as Troy says, ‘I’m sorry. I didn’t want it to end like this.’

Madison says, ‘Truth is, padre’s better off without people like us,’ as the swamp pulls them under.

Strand is standing over Madison as she comes to, as Strand reveals that Troy was the one that actually saved her.

Troy says, ‘ I grabbed a root. Pulled us out. Then used Crane’s ax to snap the cuffs.’

Madison asks, ‘Why did you do that?’ and Troy says, ‘Cause I wasn’t telling you the truth. Serena. I said that she regretted following Alicia. But that’s — that’s not what happened. Well, after Alicia helped Serena… …She gave her this. Said it would bring us luck.’

This confuses Tracy as Troy admits he lied to her, adding, ‘Serena made me promise to keep what Alicia believed in alive so I’d always know what I was fighting for, but…  I broke that promise, Madison.’

Daniel says, ‘You’re such a liar,’ but Troy insists, ‘I’m not lying.’

Not lying: Daniel says, ¿You're such a liar,¿ but Troy insists, ¿I'm not lying'

Not lying: Daniel says, ‘You’re such a liar,’ but Troy insists, ‘I’m not lying’

Ofelia says, ‘ Why should we believe that?’ Troy says, ‘I told you that I knew what it was to believe in something and how hard it was to let it go. I told you that because I saw it in Serena’s eyes when she was dying.’ She never let go of what she believed in, even though it got her killed. Back there, when we were going under… something in your eyes, it was the look of someone who was gonna die believing in nothing. I couldn’t let that happen. No, not for your sake. Not for hers. Look, I… I didn’t do what Serena asked. I didn’t keep it alive. But, uh, maybe I could. If you gave me a second chance. Like Alicia did.’

Madison says, ‘That’s what you wanted to tell her,’ but Daniel says, ‘I told you before — He’s gonna say whatever he needs to say in order to get what he wants.’

Madison says, ‘Let’s find out. You said you’d take us to the herd. It’s time to hold up your end of the deal.’

Russell contacts Troy on the walkie and says they’re here and the whole herd is here, but Strand drives up on a truck and takes out a swath of the horde with machine guns.

Russell says, ‘It will take a lot more than that’ as Madison says, ‘We know,’ as their convoy arrives and leads the walkers away.

Strand checks on Madison who is being tended to by June (Jenna Elfman) who says she thinks she has fluid in her lungs and needs to get back to the island.

They broke up the herd as Strand says Troy did what he said he would do, he stopped the herd, but they all argue about giving Troy a second chance.

Troy reunites with Tracy, who says the necklace worked, it kept him safe, as he gives it back to her.

He apologizes to her for lying to her for so long as Madison tells her to help the others so she can talk to Troy.

‘I’ve been thinking. Alicia. How she gave you a second chance. Despite everything. This is all I have left of her,’ she says, holding up her knife glove.

Troy says, ‘It doesn’t have to be. I’ll do everything in my power to make sure I’m worthy of the second chance that she gave me. And everyone on that island, too. Things have changed. You have to believe me,’ before Madison stabs Troy in the gut.

‘That’s just it, Troy. I don’t,’ Madison says, as Strand says, ‘Madison! What did you do? I’m done with second chances.’

Madison says, ‘Troy was right. That’s what got Alicia killed. That’s why I had to do this. If I didn’t, I’d be putting you all at risk. This is how we survive. This is how padre survives.’

Troy says, ‘You have to fight f-for Tracy like you fought for Nick and Alicia,’ before ultimately admitting, ‘Cause she’s not my daughter.’

A confused Madison says, ‘You said your wife was pregnant when Alicia helped you,’ and Troy says, ‘She was. But she died before the baby could be born.’

Madison asks, ‘If Serena’s not Tracy’s mother, who is?’ Troy says with his dying breath, ‘Alicia. I took her child to make up for what I lost.’

Madison looks for Tracy but she’s gone, looking for her in the woods telling her she doesn’t have to be afraid.

Tracy is hiding in a hollowed out log as we can hear others calling out for her as a zombie walks past and is killed by Ofelia.

Daniel says Troy’s followers are fanatics and he doesn’t want to stick around to see what his followers will do with his daughter missing.

Tracy comes out from her hollowed out log and is attacked by zombies when Madison saves her.

Madison says he is going to find her daughter and put her to rest as Tracy insists her dad was going to change.

‘Listen, he was right about one thing — pretending the world’s different than it is… That’s what gets people killed. And the sooner you realize that, the better. That’s how you’re gonna survive. I figured that out too late to save my own kids. I’m not gonna make the same mistake with you,’ she tells Tracy.

Luciana is talking to Daniel on the walkie when Madison comes up behind her with a gun in her head, telling her to turn off the walkie, asking her to drive them to Fort Worth.

‘I can’t run the risk of you taking her back to the island. She needs to understand that living the way Strand wants to, the way I used to think we could, that’s just gonna get her killed,’ Madison says.

Risk: ¿I can't run the risk of you taking her back to the island. She needs to understand that living the way Strand wants to, the way I used to think we could, that's just gonna get her killed,¿ Madison says

Risk: ‘I can’t run the risk of you taking her back to the island. She needs to understand that living the way Strand wants to, the way I used to think we could, that’s just gonna get her killed,’ Madison says

She says, ‘Alicia deserves to be put at rest. Maybe that will help you see beyond your anger. Maybe that will show her there is something more to fight for. I need to get a new fuel pump.’

Madison helps patch Tracy up, as Tracy says, ‘What you’re trying to do, pretending we’re family, it won’t change what you did.’

Madison says, ‘I know what I did seems unforgivable. But at least this way, you’re gonna live long enough to understand why I did it.’

Tracy gives Madison the necklace and she says, ‘What’s this for?’ Tracy says, ‘My dad said he got it from my mom. If what he said was true… It belonged to Alicia.’

Tracy says, ‘It doesn’t work. It didn’t keep my dad safe. Guess it didn’t keep Alicia safe, either,’ as Victor and Daniel arrive, trying to bring them back to Padre.

They keep arguing but ultimately barricade themselves into a building as the herd of zombies arrives.

Victor gets Frank on the walkie, who says they can’t help him, adding they have their own problem with the dead.

The dead start getting out of the barge as Dwight (Austin Amelio) orders them to close the gates.

Barge: The dead start getting out of the barge as Dwight (Austin Amelio) orders them to close the gates

Frank tells Victor they are surrounded by walkers too but the walls are holding, as Russell talks to Tracy, as Russell drops a bombshell about Alicia.

‘Troy stabbed Alicia. Left her for dead. But he didn’t see her die,’ as Madison says, ‘He told me she turned.’

Russell says, ‘He said it because that’s what I told him. You see, Troy cut her up pretty good. But she got him, too. Nearly drove that arm of hers clean through his stomach. Just like mother, like daughter. And that’s how he got it. He limped home with that thing still stuck in his belly. Couple days after the fight, Troy sent me and some of the men back… Make sure the job was done. We found a mattress soaked in blood. The knife he stabbed her with on the floor. Bloody footprints heading out the door.’

Victor says, ‘That doesn’t necessarily mean she’s alive,’ as Madison asks, ‘Why would you tell him that she died?’

‘Troy was in a lot of pain. He wasn’t in a forgiving mood, so I told him what he wanted to hear. So give me Tracy, and you go find your daughter.’

Madison says, ‘Can’t do that. If Alicia is out there, she deserves to be with her daughter. She wouldn’t want me to turn her over to you.’

Russell says, ‘I thought you might say that, Madison. I guess we’re just gonna have to take this island then.’

Dwight says, ‘Walls are 10 feet thick. The walkers can’t get in here,’ as Russell says, ‘They don’t have to get in. We just have to get you out’ as explosions are heard.

Dwight gets to Russell and asks, ‘How did you do that?’ Russell says, ‘We’ve had a couple grenade launchers for a while. Just had to wait for the right moment to let ’em rip.’

June says, ‘The fire team can’t get it under control. We can’t stay here much longer.’

Sherry says, ‘Daniel was right. We should have left him out there to die.’

Dwight tells them all they are going to forge their own path through, saying they should only kill walkers if they absolutely have to and not to stop moving until they get to the ticks.

They start moving forward as Victor and Daniel start arguing after they cleared the building.

Daniel says all of them are responsible for everyone they lost in their lives as Luciana says the car is fixed, giving Madison a map.

Daniel storms away as Victor calls Frank who says they are getting to the dock and he has his hands full.

Madison says she is not going with him because she has to find Alicia, but Victor says he needs her to save his family.

‘You are my friend, but I can’t. You don’t understand, Victor. I’ve been seeing her. Nick too. Just their faces, back in L.A. before everything went bad. If I have the chance to find her Victor, I have to try,’ Madison tells her.

‘I can’t go any further with you, Victor,’ Madison says, as Victor says, ‘I came here to save her. I came here to save you. So I can give you a chance to get things right. And now Frank and Klaus may die because of it. I guess you’re teaching her what you want her to learn. This is how you survive.’

Victor leaves and he says, ‘If you find Alicia… tell her I tried.’

Madison gets in the car with Tracy and examines the map, as Tracy asks, ‘If you’re so sure the world’s shit, why was it so important for Alicia to believe it could be different?’

‘I don’t know, Tracy. I — I think parents just try to give their kids the things that they didn’t have,’ Madison says.

Tracy says, ‘So, when you were a kid, you didn’t have anything to believe in?’

Madison says, ‘My daddy used to drink. And when he drank, he hurt my mama. He’d hit her. Then he’d apologize. He’d claim he’d stop drinking, but he never did. I watched that happen for a long time. I was like your age. And then, one day, it just went too far. I just saw too much. Like all those moments just sort of built up. And I knew he was gonna kill my mama… eventually. And I wanted it to stop. And I wanted it to stop so bad, I shot him.’

Tracy says, ‘You did it to protect her. You — You didn’t want Alicia to have to do anything like that.’

Madison admits, ‘Yeah, I thought I could build a… A place where she wouldn’t have to, where she and my son could feel safe. But all I ever did was just put them in danger.’

Tracy says, ‘So you get it?’ Madison says, ‘Get what?’ Tracy says, ‘Why I have to do this,’ as Tracy grabs her gun and shoots Madison.

Madison starts laughing and Tracy asks why, as Tracy says, ‘Because you finally understand. This is what happens when you try to build something better. You end up giving people hope. End up putting them in danger. You end up getting them killed. Find Alicia. Make sure she understands, too.’

Tracy says ‘No! She’s — She’s not my mom! I’m done listening to you!’ and runs away while we see Victor and his group are in trouble as Daniel and Luciana listen.

Luciana says, ‘Victor, we copy, but we cannot get there in time,’ as Strand says, ‘No! No! It can’t end like this! It can’t end like this!

Tracy finds her zombified father and tells him ‘I was looking for you …all night. I shot Madison. I had to. But I think everyone died on the island.I love you, Dad,’ before shooting him and burying him.

Victor finds her and tells her to put the gun down but she tells him to leave her alone, though he says he’d like to help clean her up and says there’s something he needs to tell her.

‘I know a place that’s safe,’ he says as he starts cleaning her up.

She asks why he’s still here and he says, ‘I’m here because you still have something left to fight for. You just don’t know it yet.’

‘How can you say that? How are you even alive?’ Tracy says, as Victor says, ‘Because Madison saved me. She saved all of us. And I promised her I’d find you, so I could tell you what she did.’

Tracy says she shot her and killed her, but we see her gasping back to life as she pulls out the magazine with the medallion that stopped the bullet.

‘After you shot her, after she realized you wanted everything to end, she knew she was wrong. She knew she had to do something big, something monumental, in order to have any hope of restoring your faith,’ Victor says.

Tracy says, ‘My faith? In what?’ Victor says, ‘ In what’s worth fighting for.For the people we love. For the people we have. For the things that are bigger than all of us. For the things that we’d give up our lives to protect,’ as we see them making it to the docks.

‘There’s no way she could’ve saved you all. Not with that many dead,’ Tracy says, but Victor says, ‘But she did. The same way she did once before,’ as we see her leading the dead into Padre so they could escape to the docks.

Tracy asks why she would do that and Victor says, ‘Why would she do that for you? It wasn’t just for us, Tracy. It was for you, too, so you would know. That your dad, that Madison… They were right. They knew that fighting for something better can get you killed. But it’s also something that just fighting to survive can’t. It can let you live forever.’

We see Madison turning on all the gas canisters and throwing a flare into it, destroying the horde.

Tracy says she has no one left and grabs the gun and says she can’t be there, running off on her own as Victor calls after her.

Tracy picks a flower and sets it in a jug next to a sleeping Madison, telling her, ‘I found this chain in the supplies. I wish this still worked.’

Madison wheezes and wakes up as Tracy pulls her gun out as Madison asks, ‘Where am I?’

‘You’re awake. I thought you were gonna die. I had to drag you up here on a stretcher. Antibiotics. I think your lungs got infected. My dad, he trained all of his kids in field medicine.’

Madison says the fort collapsed and Tracy says, ‘Took half a day to dig you out of the rubble. If you didn’t have this on, you would’ve suffocated,’ showing her mask.

Madison says, ‘You came back,’ as Tracy says, ‘You’re the only family I have left. Victor told me what you did.’

Madison says, ‘I am so sorry about your dad.’ Tracy says, ‘I know you are. I’m sorry I — I shot you, as Madison adds, ‘I don’t think I gave you much choice.’

Madison says, ‘I just can’t believe it’s real,’ as Alicia says ‘It is. I promise you, it is.’

Madison asks how she found them, as Alicia says, ‘A story. About a woman who sacrificed herself here. And the person who told me said her name was Madison. And it didn’t make any sense, and I didn’t know how you could possibly be alive… …But I had to be sure.’

Madison says that Tracy is Alicia’s daughter, but Alicia says she never had a kid, and Tracy’s mom is Serena, adding she was an, ‘amazing woman.’

Madison wonders why Troy would lie about that as Tracy says, ‘He knew how hard you fought for your own kids. He wanted to give you a reason to fight for me.’

Alicia says, ‘ You know I would’ve come looking for you if I knew you were alive,’ as Madison says, ‘I would’ve come looking for you, too.’

Alicia says, ‘After Troy attacked me, after I got back on my feet, I went to find the people I’d been staying with. And I saw something on the road, these women that dressed like me, they used weapons I was using, they were doing the things that I was doing. They were helping people. We met some of them. Yeah. It’s like the story of what I’d done was doing more good than I could on my own. And so I went somewhere else. I…started using a different name so Troy couldn’t find me. If I hadn’t have done that, maybe we would’ve found each other.’

Madison says, ‘You made the right choice. You gave all those people something to believe in.

Dwight says he is thinking of taking them back to the Sanctuary, adding, ‘Because we know it, it’s defensible. The streets are still intact.’

He insists she won’t lose him again and he thinks they could make Finch proud and make the place worthy of the name.

Daniel tells Victor, ‘I’ve been thinking about what I told you. And I was wrong — in some parts. You did save me, you did save my family when the world fell apart. Thanks for the Abigail.’

Victor says, ‘No need to thank me for something that people should do for one other. You just caught me on a good day.’

Daniel says, ‘Maybe you do remind me of the worst things about myself. I don’t know if people like us can act differently. And that’s why I have a problem with you, Victor. You know, but for the sake of others and our own sakes… …I guess we got to try to change.

Victor says, ‘I think I have. Whether you have, that’s up to you.’ Daniel finds Skidmark the cat under the truck, asking where she came from as Daniel picks it up as the convoy goes its separate ways.

Victor gets to the truck and finds a flower, asking one of the men if he put that in there and he says no.

Frank says, ‘You did all that you could. If Tracy wants to be found, she will. We’ll comb the area a few more times. Okay?’

Madison says she kept having visions of Alicia and Nick back in Los Angeles, saying there are probably a lot of people there that could use their help.

‘Let’s go home,’ Madison says, as they get into their truck and hit the open road as the series comes to an end.
