Former Packers kicker Mason Crosby has announced his retirement from the NFL.

The 40-year-old spent 17 seasons in the league, helping Green Bay beat the Pittsburgh Steelers to win Super Bowl XLV.

He was selected by the Packers in the sixth round of the 2007 draft and went on to spend 16 seasons in Green Bay.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Crosby had informed the Packers of his decision to retire with the team.

Only Aaron Rodgers has played more seasons with Green Bay than Crosby, who holds the franchise record for career points (1,918), field goals (395), 50-yard field goals (43) and extra points (733).

Crosby also broke the 100-point barrier in 15 of his 16 seasons in the NFL – only Adam Vinatieri (21) and Jason Elam (16) have more.

The 40-year-old, who played college football at Colorado, was the 193rd overall pick in the draft.

But he went on to play nearly 300 games for Green Bay. His tally of 258 appearances in the regular season and 23 in the postseason is the most in the team’s history.

After leaving the Packers in 2022, Crosby finished his playing career with three appearances for the New York Giants in 2023.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard announced his retirement at the age of 29 – three months after a serious knee injury ended his season early.

Hubbard, who spent seven years playing for his home-city team, is hanging up his cleats on the back of the posterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in December.

‘In my heart, I know that I gave this game, this team, and this city everything that I had,’ he said in a shock statement on Wednesday.

‘That is why today, with great pride, I am announcing that I am moving on from my playing career in the NFL and entering the next chapter of my life.’
