The Prime Minister told President Zelensky Ukraine has ‘our full support’ as the pair met at Downing Street this afternoon.

The Ukrainian leader is also due to meet with King Charles following his furious bust-up with Donald Trump last night.

Talks between Zelensky and the US presidents collapsed early on Friday after the pair’s meeting at the Oval Office descended into a shouting match.

The White House accused Zelensky of ‘disrespecting’ vice president JD Vance in front of the cameras and demanded an apology.

But a defiant Zelensky last night refused to offer one, as European leaders rallied behind him following the tense exchange.

Tomorrow the UK’s Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is hosting a crunch summit with President Zelensky and other European leaders in a bid to reach a peace deal.

‘And as you heard from the cheers on the street outside, you have full backing across the United Kingdom, and we stand with you, with Ukraine, for as long as it may take.

‘I hope you heard some of that cheering on the street.

‘That is the people of the United Kingdom coming out to demonstrate how much they support you, how much they support Ukraine, and our absolute determination to stand with you – unwavering determination – and to achieve what we both want to achieve, which is a lasting peace.

‘A lasting peace for Ukraine based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine – so important for Ukraine, so important for Europe and so important for the United Kingdom.

NATO chief issues sharp warning to Zelensky after car crash Trump talks

MPs call for frozen Russian assets to be used to aid Ukraine

MPs across the House of Commons have called for the UK and its European allies to seize the nearly 300 billion US dollars of frozen Russian assets across the continent, after the bruising encounter in the White House.

The leaders of several all-party parliamentary groups (APPGs), aimed at raising awareness about corruption, sanctions and Ukraine, have urged ministers to spend the frozen Russian money on rebuilding Ukraine.

Veteran Tory former minister Sir Iain Duncan Smith, chairman of the APPG on Magnitsky Sanctions and Reparation, said: ‘It is time to take action and seize this money. Ukraine needs financial support to enable it to re-equip its forces and to repair the appalling damage caused by Russia.

‘Having recently returned from Ukraine I have seen hospitals deliberately attacked by Russia as well as civilian homes. It is long overdue that we take action and put this money to good use in support of Ukraine.’

Labour MP Joe Powell, chairman of the APPG on Anti-Corruption, said Europe was now at a ‘crisis point’ as he called for the money to be seized, adding: ‘This would not only free up much needed resources for Ukraine right now, but would also send a clear message to Russia that aggression doesn’t pay, and these funds are not being returned. It’s time to use this leverage effectively.’

Alex Sobel, Labour chairman of the APPG on Ukraine, said: ‘It is imperative we move as quickly as possible to legislate to mobilise frozen Russian assets for Ukraine. It is right that the aggressor pays for the unbelievable damage they have caused.’

'This is going to be great television' – Trump's final remarks revealed

As the meeting in Washington between two state leaders descended into chaos, it shocked and horrified the world.

White House sources insist the display of men shouting over one another was not staged or pre-planned, and that it occurred in the spur of the moment.

But even so, as former presenter on the US’s The Apprentice, Trump still had the cameras in mind.

‘This is going to be great television, I will say that,’ he said as the press conference abruptly ended.

Revealed: The nine words that triggered historic clash between Zelensky and Trump

An Oval Office meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump descended into chaos after a simple nine-word response triggered fury on the American benches.

The scandalous bust-up has sparked fierce tensions across the globe after the US leader led an unprecedented humiliation of the war-time premier alongside attack dog VP JD Vance, later declaring that his counterpart was ‘not ready for peace’.

He accused Zelensky of ‘gambling with World War Three’ as they abandoned plans to sign a minerals deal which would have given further US support in exchange for access to Ukraine’s natural resources.

The chat in front of the American media seemed genial at first as the pair began to size each other up – with Trump happily joking with reporters as they began to get underway.

But the talks soon turned sour after a seemingly-innocuous moment where Zelensky spoke earnestly to JD Vance, with Trump quietly nodding along behind him.

Russia accuses Ukraine of Turkstream gas pipeline attack

Russia said on Saturday that it shot down three Ukrainian drones that targeted part of the infrastructure of the TurkStream gas pipeline, which transports Russian gas across the Black Sea to Turkey and Europe.

The Russian defense ministry said the drones aimed to strike a compressor station in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, in the latest of a series of similar attacks this year. Its claims could not be independently confirmed, and there was no immediate comment from Ukraine.

Before its troops moved into Ukraine, Russia supplied nearly 40% of the European Union’s pipeline natural gas. Most of these flows have since halted, with exports from Norway and the U.S. filling the gap.

The TurkStream pipeline continues to send gas to EU member Hungary, as well as Turkey and Serbia.

Ms Voloshyna, 25, said she was shaking while watching the exchange and could not believe what she was hearing.

‘I’m still very shocked right now, and re-watching it this morning was very emotional for me,’ Ms Voloshyna said.

‘I’m shaking because I couldn’t imagine this is all true, and this is what the president of America and vice president, were saying to our president.

Nato could lose US, former foreign secretary warns

This morning former foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt warned that the Nato could be at risk of losing the US if it does not feel Europe is ‘pulling its weight’.

Mr Hunt told the Today programme: ‘From Europe’s point of view there is an even bigger priority than the future of Ukraine, which is the future of Nato. And there is a simple message from what happened yesterday and that is that we can’t take that for granted.

‘The 2.5 per cent of GDP increase in defence spending this week is extremely welcome from Keir Starmer but it won’t be enough and we need all European Nato countries to be spending much closer to the 3.4 per cent of GDP that America is spending before America feels that Europe is pulling its weight.

‘And if we don’t do that, if America feels unfairly treated, we can see the fireworks and the sort of things that we’ll be putting at risk. So right now that is a very, very big priority behind the scenes – to make sure that America remains anchored in the Western alliance.’

President Zelensky has issued a new statement this morning following yesterday’s drama, as he bids to shore up global support.

‘America’s help has been vital in helping us survive, and I want to acknowledge that. Despite the tough dialogue, we remain strategic partners. But we need to be honest and direct with each other to truly understand our shared goals.’

He added that Trump’s support is ‘crucial’ to fighting Russia, continuing: ‘The Russians are killing us. Russia is the enemy, and that’s the reality we face. Ukraine wants peace, but it must be a just and lasting peace.’

He ended his statement by issuing a fresh thank you to America: ‘American people helped save our people. Humans and human rights come first. We’re truly thankful. We want only strong relations with America, and I really hope we will have them.’

In a fiery exchange, Brian Glenn, Chief White House Correspondent for Real America’s Voice, asked Zelensky: ‘Why don’t you wear a suit? You’re at the highest level in this country’s office, why don’t you wear a suit?’

Responding to the criticism, the Ukrainian leader, who is often seen wearing casual combat clothes since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, said he faced more pressing problems with the war in Europe.

He added that he ‘will wear a suit after this war will finish’ and it would be ‘maybe something like yours, maybe something better’.

Trump: Zelensky 'disrespected' US in 'cherished' Oval Office

After yesterday’s furious meeting, President Trump released a statement accusing Ukraine of ‘disrespecting’ America.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social he said: ‘We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure.

‘It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations.

‘I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.’

Zelensky: US needs to be 'more on our side'

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky refused to apologize and said he wants Donald Trump to be ‘more on our side’ during his first major interview since a disaster White House press conference with Trump and JD Vance.

The tense war of words played out inside the Oval Office Friday and quickly went off the rails when Trump took offense of how Zelensky treated his vice president JD Vance in front of the cameras.

Zelensky, speaking to Fox News, was asked point blank if he owed Trump an apology and twice filibustered before refusing and instead attempting to be gracious and added ‘I’m not sure we did something bad.’

‘We’re thankful to Americans for all your support, you did a lot, I’m thankful to President Trump and Congress’ bipartisan support,’ Zelensky said.

‘You helped us a lot from the very beginning, you helped us to survive. We are strategic partners.’

Zelensksy 'fought like a lion' to defend Ukraine

The scenes in the White House on Friday delighted officials in Moscow who saw it as a final breakdown in relations between Washington and the Ukrainian leader.

But many Ukrainians seemed unfazed by the confrontation, saying the Ukrainian leader had stood up for their country’s dignity and interests by firmly maintaining his stance in the face of chiding from some of the world’s most powerful men.

Nataliia Serhiienko, 67, a retiree in Kyiv, said Ukrainians approve of their president’s performance in Washington, ‘because Zelensky fought like a lion’.

‘They had a heated meeting, a very heated conversation,’ she said, but Mr Zelensky ‘was defending Ukraine’s interests.’

Kyiv resident Artem Vasyliev, 37, added he had seen ‘complete disrespect’ from the US in the Oval Office exchange, despite the fact that Ukraine ‘was the first country that stood up to Russia’.

‘We are striving for democracy, and we are met with total disrespect, towards our warriors, our soldiers and the people of our country,’ said Mr Vasyliev, a native of Russian-occupied Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.

Trump-Zelensky meeting: White House accused Ukrainian president of not being grateful

As Friday’s White House meeting degenerated, Vance asked Zelensky: ‘Have you said ‘thank you’ once this entire time… in this entire meeting?’

A planned press conference with Trump and Zelensky was then cancelled and Zelensky was asked to leave.

Despite the clash, Zelensky later told Fox News he believed that ‘of course’ relations with the US could be repaired.

But he refused to apologise, saying: ‘I’m not sure that we did something bad.’

He did, however, say he wished the exchange had not taken place in front of reporters.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later on CNN called for Zelensky to ‘apologise for wasting our time.’

Zelensky thanks European allies after disastrous White House meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked dozens of allies on social media on Saturday, a day after US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused him of not being sufficiently grateful.

Zelensky on X wrote the words ‘Thank you for your support’ in individual replies to around 30 messages of support from European leaders after his heated clash with the new US administration in the White House.

Despite the confrontation, Zelensky earlier thanked Trump, the US Congress and the American people for their support and for his visit.

‘Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that,’ he wrote.

Marco Rubio blames Zelensky for heated row

Marco Rubio said that Volodymyr Zelensky should apologize to Donald Trump and cast doubts on whether the Ukrainian president really wants peace after their disaster meeting.

The tense war of words played out inside the Oval Office Friday and quickly went off the rails when Trump took offense of how Zelensky treated his vice president JD Vance in front of the cameras.

In an effort to shift the blame away from Trump and Vance, whose aggression has provoked an international outcry in many of the US’s closest allies, the Secretary of State hinted that Zelensky owes the president an apology and found his behavior leading up to the Oval Office blowout unacceptable.

‘You guys only saw the end, you don’t see all the things that led up to this. The president’s been very clear on this, he campaigned on this. He thinks this war should have never started and I agree that had he been president it never would have happened,’ Rubio stated.

‘Now here we are, he’s trying to bring an end to this conflict, we’ve explained very clearly what our plan is here: we want to get the Russians to a negotiating table, we want to explore whether peace is possible,’ he added.

What happened between Trump and Zelensky?

The extraordinary Oval Office scene on Friday saw the years-long US policy of massive support for Ukraine’s fight against Russian invasion collapse in a shouting match.

The row saw European leaders scramble to voice support for Ukraine after Zelensky was made to leave the White House early and without signing a minerals-sharing deal seen as vital to an eventual US-brokered truce.

During the clash, played out in front of US and international media, Trump and Vice President JD Vance shouted at Zelensky, accusing him of not being ‘thankful’ and refusing to accept their proposed truce terms.

‘You don’t have the cards right now,’ Trump said. ‘You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out, and if we’re out, you’ll fight it out and I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.’

Zelensky departed shortly after, with Trump posting on social media that ‘he can come back when he is ready for peace.’

US media reported that Zelensky had been told to leave by senior Trump officials.
