A loving mother-of-two who moved to two years ago to provide a better future for her children back home has died unexpectedly.

Ugandan national Anita Mukundane, 36, reportedly choked to death after her airways became obstructed while drinking a glass of water on February 5.

Western police investigations into her death continue.

Ms Mukundane first settled in Broome, in WA’s north-west, where she worked as a disability support worker.

It’s understood she later moved to Perth where she worked for a commercial cleaning company, 7news.com.au reported.

She’s survived by her husband Ivan, who’s based in Queensland and their two children aged 7 and 10, who live with grandparents back home in Uganda.

The Ugandans in Queensland organisation has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay to repatriate Ms Mukundane’s body to her homeland.

‘She came to two years ago, dreaming of a better future for her two beautiful children,’ the page states.

‘Anita and her husband worked tirelessly, sending every penny back home to support their children’s care and education.

‘Anita’s greatest wish was to be reunited with her children. While she worked towards this dream, fate intervened, leaving her children and family heartbroken.’

The aim of the fundraiser is to give Ms Mukundane the dignified farewell she deserves.

‘This is a tough time for Anita’s family,’ the page added.

‘Beyond the emotional devastation, they are now faced with the significant financial burden of repatriating her body back to Uganda.

‘The costs associated with transporting her body are substantial, and her family, who relied on the support she sent, are unable to meet these costs alone.’
