British band The Kooks have revealed they are keen for a move Down Under – but there’s just one problem.

Band mainstays guitarist Hugh Harris and singer Luke Pritchard appeared on The Project on Tuesday and quickly espoused their love for .

‘Is it good being back in OZ,’ co-host Sarah Harris asked the musical duo.

Luke responded, admitting that he was so enamoured with he was considering a permanent move, but the house prices Down Under had made him reconsider.

‘It’s amazing, we love it down here,’ Luke told the panel. ‘I’m thinking about moving.’

Hugh then chimed in with: ‘Until you saw the house prices.’

Impressed with the topicality of the comment, panelist Sam Taunton added: ‘It’s the perfect interview for this show right now – you guys talking about house prices.’

As at October 2024, the median house price in Sydney was $1.65million or $650,000 more expensive than the median price for a pad in London.

Elsewhere in the chat, the band revealed they were surprised with their recent resurgence among younger fans, thanks to virality on TikTok.

‘You’ve done this magic trick with Gen Z,’ panelist Kate Langbroek said.

‘You’re like a magnet and they’ve found you and really stuck to you.’

While loathe to analyse the trend too closely, Luke said one reason for the trend could be the band’s tender years when they first broke.

‘We started noticing it on TikTok – it’s an amazing thing,’ Luke said.

‘I’m not sure I can analyse why maybe cuz we started out first album we did when we were teenagers.’

Hugh chimed in with: ‘It’s angsty for sure and there’s a bit of a gap in the market for band of that ilk.’

The Kooks are an English pop-rock band formed in 2004 in Brighton.

Signing to Virgin Records just three months after forming, the Kooks broke into the musical mainstream with their debut album Inside In/Inside Out.

They found themselves entering into mainstream media attention when they won the award for Best UK & Ireland Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2006 and picking up a nomination at The Brit Awards for the single She Moves in Her Own Way.

The Kooks’ last record, 10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark, was released in 2022 and the band’s seventh album Never/Know is set to drop in May this year.

In 2023, The Kooks responded to a viral TikTok cover of their biggest hit in the best way possible.

The Indie band edited themselves into a clip of musician Calum Bowie performing the song.

Calum, who boasted 423k followers on TikTok, is known for singing songs with his guitar from his window in Edinburgh.

The original video saw Calum receiving a scrunched up £20 from a passerby on the street below who was impressed by his version of the song.

He told the onlooker he wasn’t actually busking and that they didn’t need to give him anything, but when the fan wouldn’t take no for an answer he continued singing and smiling.

The Kooks came across the fan’s video and decided to get involved in the action by editing themselves into the clip.

The band, who looked unrecognisable, managed to make it seem as if they were the ones trying to give Calum the cash from the street below.

Calum was shocked to see The Kooks stitch his video and commented: ‘No wayyy. This is absolute gold.’
