A Utah mother told her daughters their family would be ‘financially screwed’ if they reported alleged sexual abuse imposed by their own stepfather, it is alleged/
Randi Heather Norris, 39, from Springville, is now facing charges of child abuse with injury – intentional or knowing, obstruction of justice, first-degree felony conduct and tampering with a witness, ABC 4 reported.
One of the victims reported to the Division of Child and Family Services that she was sexually abused multiple times by her stepfather, Jason Wong, 39, who has been in a relationship with their mother for a decade.
DCFS handed the report over to the Springville Police, who then discovered the details of several sexual attacks along with the fact that her mother was aware of what was happening.
‘The victim stated that Norris’s response was that it was up to the victim to decide if she wanted to report it,’ the affidavit of probable cause stated.
‘But if she did report it, they would be “financially screwed,”‘ ABC 4 reported.
Police also learned that the pair told a younger sibling to lie to authorities about the abuse for the same reason – money.
Norris allegedly confessed to police that she had known Wong was ‘sexually abusing three of her daughters, all of which were age 13 or younger at the time of the abuse’, ABC 4 reported.
She was arrested on Wednesday and booked into Utah County Jail on two felony charges and one misdemeanor.
Wong was also arrested and booked into jail on two non-bailable charges -aggravated sexual abuse of a child and rape of a child, according to public documents.
The pair began a romantic relationship in November of 2014 and are now both employed at Smith’s Food and Drug Stores in Springville – Norris as a cashier and Wong as a dairy manager.
In April of this year, Norris’s 11-year-old daughter reported a separate incident of sexual abuse by Wong which she discussed with investigators before later telling them that none of it happened, ABC 4 reported.
According to the probable cause statement, the investigators discovered that the victim withdrew her statement after being told to do so by the pair.
In 2013, Norris ran into criminal trouble over an animals at large offense – a violation that happens when an animal is not under the control of its owner or a responsible adult, according to public records.
Springville Police Department didn’t immediately respond to the DailyMail.com for comment.
